Job Title:          Peer Navigator I/II/III

Department:    Recovery & Reentry Services

Reports To:      Peer Support Supervisor

Supervises:       None 

FLSA Status:    Non-Exempt 

Pay Grade:        N3 (I), N4 (II), N5 (III) 

Job Type:          Full-Time, Regular

General Functions:

The Recovery & Reentry Peer Navigator will be an integral member of the Recovery & Reentry department. The Peer Navigator is responsible for being a peer role-model through lived experience in recovery and overall wellness by providing support and encouragement to Recovery Services and Reentry participants.

The Peer Navigator will assist participants on their path through the recovery process and work with the various teams in Recovery & Reentry to facilitate that journey.

 

Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to,

Peer Navigator I:

Provide direct peer services, motivational interviewing, community living skills, social, and emotional support to participants within Recovery & Reentry Services programs to assist in regaining cultural identities, balance, and control of their lives.Conduct initial intervention utilizing peer competencies with participants seeking services within Recovery & Reentry Services.Assist with assessment scheduling, individual skill building, and crisis management. Coordinate with referral sources, family members, community agencies, and other treatment providers to provide the best treatment and case management options for participants.Act as a role model to persons in recovery to inspire hope, share life experiences and lessons learned as a person in recovery.Share information on CITC’s philosophy, procedures, policies, and treatment modalities to help prospective participants, interested citizens, or ongoing participants make treatment decisions, set appropriate goals, or better understand the functions of the organization.Promote and assist with the participant’s self-directed recovery and cultural identity through groups, meetings and individual sessions.Maintain schedules in Carelogic to accurately reflect time spent with participants and performing other tasks assigned.Document participants' progress within the electronic health records, including all peer support individual services, per Recovery & Reentry Services policies and procedures.Provide consistent support to those on caseloads by scheduling phone contacts, individual sessions, and/or peer support meeting times/dates. Maintain schedules in CareLogic to accurately reflect time spent with participants and performing other tasks assigned.Maintain open and responsive communication in all platforms authorized by CITC including Teams, Email, and GoTo.Answer peer helpline calls as available during work hours.Attend and participate in staff meetings and individual supervision.Assist in developing recovery plans and setting achievable goals.Assist in empowering participants to advocate or directly advocate for clients' needs within the treatment program and community services.Adhere to ethical standards and maintain client confidentiality.Perform all duties as needed and assigned.

 

Peer Navigator II:

Perform all duties and responsibilities of the Peer Navigator I with a high level of proficiency.Contact community agencies to locate outside resources and notify other staff of the resources available.Maintain relationship with partner agencies and referral sources in the community, including detox services.Ensure documents provided to participants are updated regularly and stocked in the cultural room and lobby.Respond to messages from peer helpline as available throughout the day while adhering to the 24-hour response time.Adhere to ethical standards and maintain client confidentiality.Perform all duties as needed and assigned.

 

Peer Navigator III:

Perform all duties and responsibilities of the Peer Navigator II with a high level of proficiency.Support Peer Navigator I & II staff by answering questions, providing guidance, and making recommendations related to the provision of care.Provide daily oversight to Peer Navigation team regarding procedure adherence.

 

Job Responsibilities Related to Participant Privacy

Employees are expected to actively participate in CITC privacy training and to protect the privacy of participant information in accordance with CITC's privacy policies, procedures and practices, as required by federal and state law.  Failure to comply with CITC's policies and procedures on participant privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.Employees may access protected health information and other participant information only to the extent necessary to complete job duties.   Employees may only share such information on a need-to-know basis with others who have job responsibilities related to treatment, payment, or other CITC operations.Employees are encouraged and expected to report, without the threat of retaliation, any concerns regarding CITC's policies and procedures on participant privacy and any observed practices in violation of the policy to the designated Privacy Officer.

Minimum Qualifications:

Peer Navigator I:

High School Diploma or GED.Lived experience in addiction recovery as well as one (1) year continuous recovery prior to hire. Continuing participation, and ability to speak to what keeps you well and in active recovery.Approved State Peer Certification through Alaska Behavioral Health Certification Board (Peer Support Professional I or Traditional Peer Support Professional I).

 

Peer Navigator II:

Associate's degree in human services or related field.  Relevant work experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. Lived experience in addiction recovery as well as two (2) years continuous recovery prior to hire. Active and continuing participation, and ability to speak to, what keeps you well and in active recovery.Approved State Peer Certification through Alaska Behavioral Health Certification Board (Peer Support Professional II or Traditional Peer Support Professional II).

 

Peer Navigator, III:

Bachelor's degree in human services or related field. Relevant work experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. Lived experience in addiction recovery as well as three (3) years continuous recovery prior to hire. Active and continuing participation, and ability to speak to, what keeps you well and in active recovery.Experience in residential or outpatient substance use treatment and mutual aid (A.A., N.A., etc.) preferred.Approved State Peer Certification through Alaska Behavioral Health Certification Board (Peer Support Professional III or Traditional Peer Support Professional III).

 

Minimum Requirements for all Levels:

Continued employment is contingent upon a satisfactory state and federal background check, and approved NPI status with state approval as a Qualified Addictions Professional (QAP).

 

Physical Requirements: 

Primarily works in an office setting, with extended periods of time at a desk and on a computer.
