Peer Specialist
EAC Network, a not-for-profit social service agency that empowers, assists, and cares for over 62,888 people in need through 100 programs across Long Island and NYC, seeks a Peer Specialist to work full time for the Alternatives for Youth (AFY) Program. Traveling required as Peer Specialist will be conducting home visit in the Suffolk County region.
The Peer Specialist position is a non-exempt position paying $19 per hour. Schedule include: Monday and Friday 9am-5pm; Tuesday-Thursday 11AM- 7:30PM. The office is located in Central Islip, NY. The role reports to the Program Director.

Primary Purpose of Job:
The Peer Specialist is responsible for providing peer support to families and assisting the Case Management unit in all aspects of its operations in the Alternatives for Youth (AFY) Program.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide peer support including home visits, telephone reassurance, advocacy and encouragement for clients support to families in crisis struggling with problems such as substance abuse and mental illness. Provide transportation for our Teen Enrichment Program and for clients in need of emergency resources. Assist with facilitating Teen Enrichment workshops and adolescent groups. Design engaging and informative flyers for our Teen Enrichment Program. Post flyers and related content on our social media platforms. Provide individualized mentoring support focusing on their personal, educational and emotional development as per Director. Complete written reports and progress notes in a timely manner regarding clients’ progress. Participate in team meetings, case conferences and required training.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:
High School Diploma or educational equivalent required. Persons in recovery must have a minimum of three years sobriety as per funder requirements. Working knowledge of criminal justice issues, mental illness, substance abuse and/or adolescent behavior preferred. Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, and email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments. Must have access to automobile and possess valid New York State driver’s license. Must have good communication skills, both oral and written.
