Job Title: Peer Specialist Intern 

 

Job Summary:                                                    

CASES is seeking a Peer Specialist Intern for a placement that is appropriate for students enrolled in a Howie the Harp or relevant peer specialist training program. The intern should be interested in direct client care, specifically peer work. The newSTART team serves a diverse range of ATI adult clients, specializing in working with people with criminal legal system involvement. Primary responsibilities of this position include conducting individual needs assessments and proving motivation using MI and the peer lens. The intern is expected to also run group sessions within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment, maintaining appropriate documentation, and collaborating with internal and external service providers. This position is supervised by a CASAC/CRPA. 

 

Salary: This internship is unpaid and does not offer monetary compensation. However, we may be able to provide documentation or support for academic credit hours, if eligible, through your school.  

 

Shift Hours: This internship position is 21-28 hours (3-4 days) per week. 

 

Location Address: 2090 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard, New York, NY 10027. Our offices are easily accessible by public transportation.  

 

Workplace Flexibility: Flexible - Staff have the flexibility to complete their workday from home or another suitable space, typically after reporting to the office and/or engaging in field or community-based work. 

  

What You Will Be Doing:  

Interns shadow their team for clients’ individual mandated sessions and when assessed as ready, interns may take the lead on new cases.Groups: Interns co-facilitate 1-2 groups per week with their team’s guidance for the duration of the internship placement. Group topics could include Mindfulness, Communication, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Relationships.Supervision: Attend weekly supervision (1 hour) and additionally as needed.Documentation: Maintain appropriate documentation in ECM.

  

What We Are Looking For:  

Intern must be currently enrolled in Peer Training.

 

Preferred Skills: 

Experience working with criminal-legal involved populations.Experience working with complex mental health presentations.Experience conducting individual and/or group therapy.Lived experience in the legal/mental health/substance use system.
