Peer Specialist Liaison
Overview

Provides training and guidance to Peer staff and managers to support quality service delivery and compliance with VNSNY and program policies and procedures. Monitors daily program operations to identity training and intervention needs. Works under moderate supervision.


Responsibilities
Provides guidance and support to Peer staff to ensure services are individualized and  recovery focused to allow individuals the opportunity to learn how to manage their own recovery and advocacy. Creates and ensures implementation of plans for individual and group supervision which includes a focus on coping and self-management skills.Makes monthly field visits to observe peers in their work with clients and provides direct feedback  ; documents observations and address opportunities to improve overall training.   Provides guidance regarding professional development to Peer staff.Assists in the identification of issues impacting peer services and works collaboratively with Peer staff and/or management to resolve.Creates and provides new hire orientation for staff.Works to increase level of cultural sensitivity, awareness and competency regarding Person Centered Planning and Peer services.Identifies and implements Best Practices as it relates to delivery of Peer services. Conducts trainings for Peers staff and Managers to enhance their skills.  Identifies needs and adds to the trainings, as appropriate.Participates in special projects and performs other related duties, as assigned
Qualifications

Education:  High School Diploma or the equivalent required.  Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 

Certification:  Certified Peer Specialist by New York State Office of Mental Health or Certified Peer Recovery Advocate by New York State Office Addiction Services And Supports required. 

Experience:  Minimum three years of experience in working with individuals with mental health and/or substance misuse required.  Effective oral /written/interpersonal communication skills and ability to work independently required. Willingness to share personal and practical experience and knowledge appropriately and respectfully required. Computer fluency preferred.
