Student Wellness Hub

The Student Wellness Hub provides a range of health services to McGill students with a focus on awareness, prevention, and early intervention. The Student Wellness Hub has a variety of clinicians that provide one-on-one appointments, therapy groups and other services. 

Position Context:

The Peer Support Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the vision of the Healthy Living Annex is achieved with the contribution and collaboration of the Hub Peer Supporters. The Peer Support Manager demonstrates strong leadership skills to build a community of McGill students who support each other and all Hub wellness initiatives across campus.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Manage the delivery of the Student Wellness Hub’s peer support/education services, to raise awareness of the value of peer support/education.Hire, on-board, train and supervise team of student staff.Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key individuals, stakeholders, groups and organizations promoting and delivering peer support, health education and health promotion across the University.Work with recognized leaders and innovators in the field of peer support. Research and implement best practices in the field of Peer Support. Actively develop expertise in post-secondary peer support.Provide leadership and mentorship opportunities to Hub Peer Supporters (HPS) to support the design, implementation, and evaluation of individual and group-based activities, aimed at providing support and information to students and faculty/staff in line with wellness principles. Maintain and facilitate the Peer Support Training Program to campus student groups to standardize peer support training across the University. Develop a calendar of training opportunities for campus peer supporters. Organize events, workshops, and conferences both locally (within McGill and Montreal) and nationally.  Oversee event logistics and identifies key influencers to invite.Ensure that the peer support and health promotion reach students through content development and other communication pathwaysManage final transaction of the Health Education Boutique (Shag Shop).Supporting the team as needed with tasks and duties as needed

Connect with peer support groups across McGill’s campus to collaborate on initiatives, ensure they remain up to date on Hub news and help build a network amongst the campus peer support groups

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

Preference will be given to individuals with a Peer Support Canada Certification or equivalent.Recognized expertise in youth mental health. Experience in the mental health field is an asset.Proven ability to supervise a group of diverse individuals with intentional structure and defined roles and responsibilities. Experience in a mentorship program recommended.Experience in a University setting is an asset. Demonstrated ability to take responsibility and deliver results with minimum direction and oversight. Must be self-directed and able to work autonomously and as part of a team in a dynamic and deadline-oriented environment.Demonstrated problem solving and organizational skills with a proven ability to administer multiple activities and projects. Proven planning, organizational, and priority-setting skills.Demonstrated experience in event planning, production and logistics. Prior experience supervising staff in a unionized environment.  Proven experience in accounting, budgeting and forecasting of expenditures. Ability to adapt quickly; must demonstrate flexibility in the performance of tasks.Precision and attention to detail.Must be self-motivated, self-directed and approachable.Composed under pressure with an ability to cope effectively with change.  Attention to detail and initiative. Student-focused and service-oriented with a demonstrated ability to build constructive and effective relationships with all levels of staff, students and the public.Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to deal with confidential and/or sensitive situations with discretion, tact and diplomacy.Demonstrated skills in a PC environment using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail and internet search engines. English and French, spoken and written. 

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # 4 (Fluent) on a scale of 0-4.
