**_Job Summary:_**
**_Nature of Work:_**
_The CU College of Nursing is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) University Staff (non-classified) Peer Support Specialist for the CU College of Nursing. The position will support the grant-funded peer support specialist doula program in northern Colorado (e.g. Larimer & Weld Counties)._
_Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and this position may be required to work on some Saturdays/Sundays and evenings/nights (for events/clinic coverage). The position is eligible to request a hybrid schedule following the CU College of Nursing policy._

_This position reports directly to Jessica Anderson, DNP, CNM, WHNP, FACM, Director of Midwifery Services._

**_Examples of Work Performed:_**
**_Clinical Care (75%)_**
+ _Under general supervision, receive training and serve as a Peer Support Specialist to implement peer-led interventions for clients in opioid medication-assisted and traditional outpatient client treatment._
+ _Conduct structured, peer-led individual and group interventions that focus on health education, and care coordination, as well as identifying and reducing barriers to care for clients._
+ _Conduct outreach activities in the community to engage pregnant and postpartum clients in substance use treatment._
+ _Provide connections to appropriate resources to clients as requested by the patient._
+ _Maintain a repository of resources, and track demand/utilization of resources by clients, communicating with leadership/supervisor of action items and additional resources required, partnerships to establish_
+ _Collaborate with supervisor and staff, and coordinate efforts to ensure successful delivery of services._
+ _Attend and participate in training, team/staff meetings, and other events as needed._
+ _Identify any problems, challenges, or obstacles in the coordination of services, identify potential solutions, and resolve such problems, challenges or obstacles promptly._
+ _Ensure all duties and responsibilities are performed for the effective and appropriate benefit of clients to whom care and/or services are being provided._
+ _Ensure confidentiality of client health information and/or health records._
+ _Complete paperwork for each participant served, as required by ICWB and/or any grant-specific paperwork requirements._
+ _Provide support to people who are admitted into evidence-based MAT treatment within their region._
+ _Establish and maintain communication, either on-site or by phone with care providers._
+ _Participate in regular community meetings focused on addressing opiate/substance use challenges, as assigned by the supervisor._
+ _Facilitate peer recovery support services in a group setting and/or individual setting._
+ _Assist participants with the creation of a personal recovery plan, as requested by the participant._
+ _Participate in projects and site meetings._
+ _Participate in any grant-specific meetings as required._
+ _Provide support during client labor admission._
+ _Complete program-supported peer supervision training to provide supervision to peer support specialists._
**_Customer Service (15%)_**
+ _Provide in-person and telephone reception._
+ _Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders._
+ _Provide information on program services and respond courteously to queries._
+ _Work comfortably among clients with or without substance abuse disorder, who are referred from city and county parole/probation departments, the department of Social Services, and other relevant agencies._

+ _Continuously maintain accurate and up-to-date records and/or notes as required by agency policy._
+ _Use electronic health record systems to ensure timely documentation, recording, and tracking of communications, interventions, and client data._
+ _Schedule and maintain multiple, internal, and external appointments._
+ _Enter data into, and maintain, accurate records of activities._
+ _Manage confidential client information and health records._
+ _Document intervention activities in an accurate and timely manner and seek consultation from the supervisor or other staff, as necessary._

+ _High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)._
+ _At least one (1) year of peer support or related work experience._
**_Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire._**
**_Conditions of Employment:_**
+ _Must be willing and able to self-identify as having experienced the process of recovery from a mental health disorder, substance use disorder, trauma, or one or all such conditions._
+ _Must be willing and able to obtain the Colorado Peer and Family Specialist (CPFS) certification within 1_ _year of the hire date (fee paid by employer):_
+ _Candidate must provide evidence of earning 60 contact and training hours (CEs) of peer recovery-focused education and training._
+ _Must include at least 48 hours of peer recovery-focused education/training, including education in documentation, community/family education, case management, crisis management, Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC), screening and intake, identification of indicators of substance use and/or co-occurring disorders for referral, service coordination, service planning, cultural awareness and/or humility, and basic pharmacology._
+ _Must include at least six hours of ethics education and training within the last six years._
+ _Must include six hours of HIV/other pathogens education and training within the last six years._
+ _Must be willing and able to work some evenings and weekends on an infrequent, as-needed basis._
+ _Must be willing and able to work in a normal client care environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases._
**_Preferred Qualifications:_**
+ _Prior work experience in Client Navigation and connecting clients to required services or resources._
+ _Prior work experience in working with pregnant and postpartum individuals and families or people dealing with mental health or substance use_
+ _Experience with motivational interviewing techniques._
+ _Experience working with clients who are involved with the criminal justice system, probation/parole, human services, and/or other similar referral sources._
+ _Experience working with electronic health records_
+ _Willing and able to utilize bilingual skills (Spanish/English) at a conversational level in a professional setting._
