Pennwood Cyber Charter School - Advisory Teacher

Position Summary and Responsibilities 

Pennwood Cyber Charter School seeks high-quality, state certified teachers to serve as the staff of Pennwood. Working from a home office in Pennsylvania, certified Advisory Teachers virtually manage academic intervention and supplemental support programming at Pennwood Cyber Charter School using the telephone, Internet and various curriculum tools. Advisory Teachers consult regularly with other Pennwood teachers, counselors, learning coaches and students to ensure that each child successfully completes their instructional program. Advisory Teachers collaborate with all staff to ensure the school’s cyber learning program is successful for all students. 

 

Key Responsibilities of the Advisory Teacher   

Contribute to a culture of achievement by supporting the intervention and MTSS program   Make Welcome Calls to new students and keep grade level teachers informed when new students are enrolled into their courses;  Monitor grade level escalation, including contacts and performance.  Advise students and families related to academics, career planning and graduation;  Assist students and parents with school course selection process according to specific state credit and graduation requirements and student needs and interests. An integral part of this process is assisting students and parents to develop a Four-Year Plan for meeting graduation requirements;  Advise students with issues related to dropping courses and changing schedules, seeking support as needed, while ensuring that the school’s course selection and drop policies are adhered to;  Work with school teams to identify and help families access school and community resources, making referrals to the social worker where applicable;  Assist and support with Academic Plans for their caseload of students;  Develop call schedule to talk to students and parents monthly or more (as needed) on academic progress and work to develop solutions to any barriers to success;  Implement programs for students and families related to Connections Term, state assessments, MTSS and interventions;  Participate in the Student Support Team (SST) when applicable;  Help identify students who are “at risk” or “in crisis”; making referrals to counselors, social worker and/or school leadership;   Contribute to their caseload of students’ Personal Learning Plan (PLP);  Support families through the school withdrawal process, assisting with data collection regarding withdrawal;  Report and refer critical incidents that jeopardize student well-being as obligated by law, administrative regulations, or ethical standards. Stay abreast of all state regulations relating to incident reporting and documentation;  Assist teachers when students enroll mid-semester, making sure that teachers receive guidance on integrating the students into their coursework, and ensuring that previous grades, credits, and evaluations are handled appropriately;  Assume teaching and grading duties as necessary;  Collaborate with other teachers (i.e. PLCs) on a regular basis to develop and update Personal Learning Plans, support students who are struggling, and refine strategies to make students successful;  Engage in professional development;   Devise and implement cyber methods of creating and maintaining a “school community”;  Work with other teachers and school staff to coordinate social activities and relevant field trips for students;  Manage and attend field trips;  Assist with proctoring for required state tests.  Monitor state testing participation for assigned grade level. Assist with student contacts/confirmation regarding state testing;  Participate in student recruiting sessions and other marketing efforts that require instructional staff representation;  Other duties as assigned.

Requirements 

Highly qualified and certified teacher in Pennsylvania  Endorsements in EL, Special Education, Counseling or certification in secondary subject areas a plus  Pennsylvania residency   Experience teaching in a cyber learning environment a plus  Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite)  Excellent communication skills, both oral and written  Highly organized and punctual  Student-centric  High degree of flexibility and agility  Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment  Evidenced team player track record  Willingness to travel for state testing, school and marketing events (may require overnight travel)  Ability to work occasional evening hours, as needed to support students and families  Ability to effectively work remotely  Please note 2-step authentication is required to set-up to login to all systems if given a job offer.
