People Fellow (Human Resources - 2025 Graduates)

The People Fellow role at Appian is a rotational position designed for recent university graduates who are passionate about building a career in Human Resources. This role provides exposure to various functions within the People Team, including Operations, Payroll, HR Business Partnering (HRBP), Recruiting, Total Rewards, Talent Development, and more. Over the course of [12-18 months], the Talent Fellow will gain hands-on experience in different areas, with the opportunity to identify their strengths and interests, ultimately transitioning into a permanent role within the People Team that aligns with their career aspirations and skills.

This role is based at our Headquarters in McLean, VA. Appian was built on a culture of in-person collaboration, which we believe is a key driver of our mission to be the best. Duties/Responsibilities:

Participate in structured rotations across core People Team functions: HR Operations, Payroll, HRBP, Recruiting, Total Rewards, and Talent Development.

Engage in project-based work and daily tasks to gain comprehensive insights into each function.

Assist in the execution of HR programs, policies, and processes across different functions.

Contribute to projects such as onboarding, payroll processing, talent acquisition campaigns, employee engagement, and training initiatives.

Attend training sessions, workshops, and mentorship meetings to build foundational HR skills.

Develop an understanding of HR systems, compliance requirements, and best practices.

Work with team members across various HR disciplines to support company-wide people initiatives.

Partner with colleagues to identify process improvements and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the People Team.

Assist in collecting, analyzing, and reporting HR data related to operations, recruiting, payroll, and employee development.

Support the creation of dashboards, reports, and presentations for leadership.

Reflect on each rotation to identify areas of interest and strengths.

Collaborate with mentors and supervisors to determine a permanent role within the People Team at the end of the program.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related field.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to learn quickly and adapt to different functions.

Flexible and able to adjust to new challenges and environments.

Focuses on accuracy and thoroughness in tasks.

Takes initiative and demonstrates a willingness to contribute.

Organizational and time management skills.

Analytical mindset and attention to detail.
