NBC Select (https://www.nbcnews.com/select) is seeking a part time (16-24 hours per week) Freelance Weekend Editor to lead weekend editorial coverage with a focus on deals, news, and trending topics. This role is perfect for an experienced editor with a sharp eye for compelling stories, strong news judgment, and the ability to craft clean, engaging content quickly. You'll oversee weekend content production and deliver high-quality, timely articles.
Responsibilities
+ Monitor and respond to breaking news and trending stories, ensuring swift coverage that aligns with NBC Select’s editorial voice.
+ Write, edit, and publish 5-7 pieces of content daily, including trending stories, deals coverage, and event-based articles.
+ Edit all articles for clarity, grammar, style, and factual accuracy, ensuring alignment with NBC Select’s tone and voice.
+ Plan and execute weekend coverage around major sales events and trending news.
+ Craft SEO-optimized headlines and copy to maximize audience engagement and search visibility.
+ Collaborate with the editorial team to troubleshoot CMS issues and ensure smooth workflow during weekend shifts.
Schedule
+ Shifts: Friday–Sunday (e.g., 8 a.m.–4 p.m. or 9 a.m.–5 p.m.)
+ Flexibility to adjust hours for breaking news, special events, or holiday coverage.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a project-based position with an estimated duration of 6 to 12 Months, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables are completed. Salary range: $30-$40/hour, based on experience and other factors.
+ 5+ years of experience in writing and editing for a news, lifestyle, or deals-focused publication, with a background in breaking news or trending topics.
+ Exceptional writing and editing skills with a keen attention to detail.
+ Strong news judgment and the ability to prioritize relevant, timely stories for NBC Select’s audience.
+ Familiarity with CMS platforms, social media tools, and content distribution best practices.
+ Basic understanding of SEO and analytics tools to track and improve content performance.
+ Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, juggling multiple deadlines and breaking news simultaneously.
+ Knowledge of deals, e-commerce, and consumer trends is highly desirable.
