Performance Engineering Intern
Who We Are Looking For

The Performance Engineering Intern will be part of the Clearway Performance Engineering Team and will report to Director, Solar Performance Engineering. The Performance Engineering Team is responsible for predicting solar PV energy performance, completing capacity tests, and discussing results with internal and external stakeholders. This position is part of the 10-week Summer Internship Program at Clearway Energy Group beginning in June 2025. 

We are looking for current juniors or rising seniors pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Meteorology, Statistics, Physics, or quantitative fields. 

Throughout this summer internship program, you’ll get exposure to real projects and challenges while gaining first-hand professional experience. At Clearway, you’ll gain access to an innovative and fast-paced work environment. You’ll also participate in networking and learning events with your fellow intern cohort. 

This hybrid position will be based in our Scottsdale, San Francisco, San Diego, or Houston offices.

What You'll Be Doing

The Performance Engineering Intern's primary responsibilities will include: 

Learn about PV performance modeling (primarily using PVSYST) to assist business development, development engineering, capital markets, and asset management teams with the evaluation of new or existing solar facilities for internal and external (i.e. project finance and contract negotiation) uses.  Learn and then conduct weather resource assessments of satellite and ground-measured data.  Validate inputs and run soiling/snow models in different climates and regions.  Analyze project data and simulation results, identify patterns, and provide insights to generate high-quality reports in support of optimized design and energy production.  Perform ad-hoc analyses to solve specific business stakeholder issues 

The Performance Engineering Intern will be assigned to an individual project related to a key performance factor (such as long-term degradation impact) and will present results to the project leadership at the end of the summer.
