Perfusion Assistant, Procirca

UPMC Procirca is looking for a casual Perfusion Assistant to join their dedicated team!

The Perfusion Assistant works under the direction of the physician and perfusionist providing assistance with perfusion services throughout the UPMC Health System. This individual will be required to travel between designated UPMC Hospitals to assist with various perfusion related activities. In addition, the individual may participate in a rotating on-call schedule.

This is a casual role, with mainly daylight hours, but schedule is fluid. Mostly working at Procirca locations in Pittsburgh, with occasional travel (2.5 hours) to outside Procirca locations.

Responsibilities:

Maintain optimal communication, close cooperation, and consultation with perfusionist and physicians during delivery of services. Maintain continuing education and clinical competencies related services provided. Assist with preparation and completion of lab tests approved by the facility laboratory manager. Provide autologous blood recovery and biologic therapy as required Maintain appropriate inventory, equipment, and maintenance of equipment. Assist with the transport of equipment and evaluation of new equipment or process. Understands and implements specific regulatory requirements associated with services provided. Completion of quality assurance protocols as established by the perioperative blood management program. Assist with preparation of the heart lung machine under direct supervision of the perfusionist Maintain proficiency with the operation and maintenance of a variety of autologous blood equipment and procedures such as autologous cell salvage, production of concentrated platelet rich plasma Maintain appropriate, timely, and accurate documentation including pre-procedure checklist and filing of all records. Assist in the education, orientation, and training of new staff or interested personnel. Required adherence to the Health System policy outlining the care, maintenance, culturing, documentation, and reporting related to the heater cooler units used by the perfusion department.
