The Multispecialty Procedure Unit (MSPU) Perioperative Patient Assistant (PPA) at Center of Health and Healing 2 (CHH2) functions as a member of the procedural care team, while under the direct supervision and direction of the procedural registered nurses, endoscopy technicians, electrophysiology technicians, interventional radiology technicians, and cardiac catheterization (cath) technicians.
The PPA will provide assistance with cleaning and preparing procedure rooms and equipment for endoscopy, cardiac cath, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and minor procedures. The PPA will provide assistance with retrieving and stocking supplies and related items, procedure room turnover, and management of endoscopes from the procedure room to sterile processing and back to the scope storage cabinets. The PPA supports patient care through assistance with patient positioning, patient skin prep, and other duties as assigned. The PPA supports the environment of the unit including, but not limited to, the procedure rooms and core area. This position requires the ability to ride the Portland aerial tram in the events supplies or equipment must be obtained from the procedural units on the Marquam Hill campus.
The PPA also provides front desk coverage at the Gastrointestinal (GI) Procedure Unit on Marquam Hill (MPV). The PPA is expected to add inpatients to the endoscopy schedule, answer the phone, assist staff with patient positioning, and other duties as assigned.
Pay Range: $25.86 - $34.95 per hour
Function/Duties of PositionSupply and Equipment Assistance
Assisting in set-up and retrieval of supplies – serve as a runner for supplies located outside of the procedure room. Obtain supplies from MPV in the event the supply is not available at CHH2.Assist staff in restocking supply carts and in procedure rooms.Assist in set-up and retrieval of equipment – serve as a runner for equipment located outside of the procedure room. Obtain equipment from the hill in the event the equipment is not available at CHH2.Responds to pages to assist in retrieving dirty scopes from the procedure room and sending them to sterile processing.Transport endoscopes to Centralized Sterile Processing Department(CSPD).Responds to pages to retrieve clean scopes from CSPD and return them to the scope cabinet.Cleans medical equipment, fluoroscopy (fluoro) beds in procedure rooms, patient positioning and transferring devices, stretchers/wheelchairs, and hard surfaces including, but not limited to counters, tray tables, and flooring.Checks for the integrity of sterile instruments and trays.Transports sterile instruments and trays to and from sterile processing.Checks supplies for compromised packaging and expired product.Return unused supplies to the core post procedure.Cleans equipment after every procedure.Orders linen and restock the blanket warmers.Immediately available to transport medical equipment, labs, blood products, and supplies to and from various locations within the Perioperative and Procedural units of OHSU.
Room Turnover and Set Up
Responds to pages to assist with procedure room turnover which includes, but is not limited to: cleaning equipment, fluoroscopy beds, carts, patient monitoring equipment, hard surfaces, patient transfer or positioning items, removing and replacing used disposable equipment, and removing all trash, soiled linen, and full sharps containers.Calls anesthesia tech for anesthesia turnover as directed.Assists with setting up the procedure room for the next procedure which includes, but is not limited to: setting up equipment, gathering supplies, placing clean linen on fluoroscopy tables, assisting in opening sterile supplies and instruments, and obtaining endoscopes for procedures.Patient Care Support
Assist the staff in transferring, positioning, and prepping patients as directed.Transport patients via wheelchair or stretcher as needed.Assists in transferring and positioning patients to and from a stretcher or wheelchair to fluoroscopy bed using transportation-assist devices including Hovermatts, Slipps, ceiling lifts, and slider boards.Maintains patient stretcher or wheelchair equipment in designated locations.Provides BLS-trained patient care during cardiac or respiratory arrests.Desk Duties
Scheduling responsibilities using Epic include:Adding inpatient procedures as directedChecks in patients for their procedureCoordinates and communicates with scheduler regarding procedure orders and scheduling needs.Prepares outpatient and inpatient charts for same day and next day procedures.Makes pre-procedure patient phone calls and post procedure patient follow up phone calls. Documents the phone call in the patient’s chart in Epic. Escalates patient needs to the Nurse Coordinator as needed.Calls for emergency response help (code blue, rapid response, massive transfusion)Assumes role of Mission Control Coordinator as assigned
Miscellaneous:
