Job Description
Iowa DOT’s Mission isMaking Lives Better Through Transportation. Location: District 5 Office- Ottumwa, Iowa
Shift Requirements : M – F 8a-4:30p (some travel required) (flexible schedules would be considered upon hire)
As anEngineering Operations Technician (EOT),you will work with engineers, field staff, utility companies, local public agencies, and the public to review permits on the primary road system. You will also serve as a technical advisor for our maintenance garage operations concerning construction methods on completed projects, work proposed, solutions for repair or survey needs and resolving citizen concerns. When you join the department, you will help people travel safely and efficiently in collaboration with your Iowa DOT teammates.
On a typical day you will be:
+ Reviewing and administering the DOT permit program, including utility, access, work in right of way, advertising signs, and plantings in the Central or the Eastern areas of District 5 in SE Iowa.
+ Working with maintenance supervisors, County and City Engineers, and others to provide safe and efficient transportation systems
+ Ensuring that public investment in the system infrastructure is protected and preserved
+ Assisting district staff in Iowa DOT right-of-way management
+ Reviewing complaints and /or inquiries from outside agencies, legislators, and the public
+ Visiting project sites
+ Participating in training opportunities

Special Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid Iowa Class C Non-commercial Operator's License
Must be able to travel and may be required to stay away from home overnight during assignments.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, and experience equal to two years of full-time work in highway construction, inspection, or surveying.
2) A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in engineering, construction management, or a related field equals one year of full-time experience.
3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Construction Technician or Highway Technician Senior.
