We are seeking a Personal Safety Professional (PSP) located in the Columbus, Ohio area. The selected PSP will provide safety oversight and support for Marathon Pipeline (MPL) and Terminals; locations include: MPL Heath Area, MPL Lima Area, and the following Terminals: Oregon, Lima, Columbus, & Canton. Safety oversight and support is subject to change in the future. This position will work very closely with MPL/Terminal Leadership and Operations to achieve safety goals and objectives. The PSP will be involved in the day-to-day operational activities as well as project-related work to ensure the safety of all personnel and contractors. Participation and involvement in the monthly safety meetings/initiatives, project review activities, safety training, and auditing will be a significant portion of the Personal Safety Professional’s responsibilities. This position may also be involved in safety program management. The Personal Safety Professional will be expected to participate in emergency response events and drills. Due to geographical distance and the need to provide support across multiple assets, the Personal Safety Professional will need to be effective at self-management.
In order to support operational needs, daily travel is expected. Overnight travel is estimated at 25 - 35% but is subject to change depending on initiatives in the area. Pending business needs, asset growth and resource fluctuation, the position’s coverage areas (outside of the host area) may change to support the business
This position is part of a progression based on candidate experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the SME for all safety programs for the coverage area, including being a cultural influencer with regards to Behavior Based Safety, leadership engagement and the Elite Safety Leader journey.Engage in project related work by participating in the review and approval of Commissioning Decommission and Recommission Plans, Management of Change, Energy Isolation and other safety support plans. Support Safety programs (Life Critical, Contractor Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Behavior Based Safety, etc.) in the execution of field work.Provide safety training and Life Critical skill evaluation, when necessary, to employees. Continuously assess safety risks within project scope and facilities. Develop and execute necessary risk mitigation plans.Review tasks such as Life Critical, work permitting, excavations and lift plans; correcting deficiencies and identifying opportunities for improvement. Engage in audits and job site visits to identify and mitigate hazards and ensure compliance/conformance issues.Provide input in the development and review of operations and safety procedures and standards. Serve as an advocate for front line employees to support, educate and help them work safely.Respond to emergency response events and serve within the incident command structure (ICS) to provide air monitoring, development of health and safety plans, and other actions as needed. Other responsibilities/duties as assigned.Participate in monthly safety meeting and assist operations with continuously improving the quality and value of their safety meetings.Support operations in maintaining or pursing OSHA Voluntary Protection Program.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or GED required with 6 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree in (Safety Management, Occupational Health, Engineering or related field) with four (4) or more years of relevant experience.Ability to manage complex projects with limited support.Mentors less experienced members of the teamAbility to identify risk and implement mitigations based on knowledge of the business.Strong oil & gas operations and/or safety background preferred.A valid Driver’s License is required.#LS
