Overview:
Katz JCC Personal Trainers are responsible for providing personalized attention, professional fitness instruction and designing fitness programming that significantly contributes to each member’s health and fitness goals. Each trainer must possess qualifications and experience necessary to communicate and demonstrate proper technique and form to each individual client. The Personal Trainer provides exceptional services to all customers: members, guests and staff, whether by phone or in person in a professional manner at all times.
Hours: Early Morning Hours and Weekends
Responsibilities/ Requirements:
+ JCC personal trainers will provide individualized, effective, and safe training sessions to JCC members whether in person or online. These sessions will reflect the objectives, goals, and wishes of the client.
+ Trainers will create personalized exercise prescriptions based upon the client’s level of physical fitness and capacity for both cardiovascular and weight bearing exercises. A client’s pre-existing condition(s) and/or physical limitations will be considered when developing a training regimen.
+ Trainers must take a client’s health history prior to initiating personal training. A medical release must be obtained prior to training, for those clients who display high or multiple risk factors. A client’s pertinent and personal information must remain confidential. Fitness Assessments for all new clients are highly recommended as well.
+ Training sessions will be either 30 or 60 minutes. Session time will be determined by the client and paid for in advance with the appropriate training package.
+ Training sessions may be transferred to another member per Personal Trainer Coordinators approval.
+ Trainers are required to wear appropriate clothing. Black pants or shorts must be worn at all times when training. The black JCC personal training staff shirts must be worn during personal training sessions. Appropriate staff jackets may be worn over the uniform bearing the JCC logo.
+ Equipment must be cleaned and after use by clients during the training session (Report any problems with the equipment to the Fitness Director)
+ Trainers are responsible for making sure their clients pay for their sessions ahead of time before logging their sessions in Mindbody. Any unpaid sessions will not be validated for payment.
+ Trainers are responsible for their own logging of sessions for payroll and must complete Mindbody sessions accordingly by the last Friday of the pay period. Trainers are responsible for their own accurate bookkeeping insuring accurate Mindbody logging of sessions.
+ Trainers are required to notify immediate supervisor when or if any of the following should occur:
+ Termination of training between client/trainer due to a change in trainer or unsatisfactory reasons on either parties’ side
+ Injury of a client. (an accident report must be written and submitted to the Fitness Director)
+ Clients can be charged for sessions cancelled within 24-hours. Trainers must notify the Personal Trainer Coordinator if a client is to be charged for a “no-show.” If there are mitigating circumstances that the trainer deems legitimate, he/she may elect not to have a client charged for a “no show.” Clients who have not completed their sessions within the allotted 1-year time period will forfeit the remainder of their sessions. If circumstances exist, a training package will be extended or put on “hold” for a specified period of time. Any alterations in the training package must be made by the Fitness Director.
+ Trainers are expected to be on time for your clients. If a trainer fails to show for a client’s training session (without notifying the client), that client will be entitled to a free session on the trainer and will not be listed in Mindbody as a completed session.
+ All personal trainers are required to be certified. It is your responsibility to keep valid certifications. The JCC will accept the following personal training certifications: (all are accredited by the National Commission of Certifying Agencies) ACE ACSM, IFPA, NCSF, NASM, NFPT, NSCA, NESTA, NETA
+ Trainers are required to have a valid and current CPR certification.
+ Trainers must attend scheduled staff meetings/training and development. This could include the assistance with special programs (5k run / Kid’s Inflatable Run).
+ Physical interaction must be used appropriately during sessions, as a means of correcting alignment and/or focusing a client’s concentration on a targeted area. The use of touch should only be at the discretion and agreement of the client or be immediately discontinued at a client’s request or if a client expresses/displays discomfort.
+ Avoid sexually oriented conversation, foul language, and inappropriate physical contact.
+ As a staff member, consistently highlight and promote all activities, events, training programs and services in an enthusiastic and professional manner.
+ Personal trainers may not solicit JCC clients to train outside of the JCC. This is an integrity policy and must be followed accordingly. Solicitation will result in termination of position.
+ Personal trainers on floor shift must also not overlap sessions in which no floor staff are available to assist members.
+ Newly hired trainers must acquire and maintain a minimum of 3 clients within 45 days of hiring.
+ Trainers are required to do JKickstarters as requested by the Personal Training Coordinator
+ Trainers must clock in/out when training during a floor shift.
Education and Certifications:
+ A bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology or a related field is preferred, or proof of enrollment in a fitness related degree program AND/OR a nationally accredited Personal Trainer Certification (as listed above).
+ Current CPR & First Aid certification.
+ Experience and demonstrated knowledge in fitness instruction.
+ Personable, outgoing and motivating personality: Ability to work well with people.
Prior Experience:
At least 6 months to 1-year personal training in the field.
