Department Background:

The New York State Integrated Pest Management Program (NYSIPM) at Cornell AgriTech is part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). The program leads research initiatives and provides research-based educational outreach in the areas of agriculture and community IPM throughout the region. NYSIPM is closely linked with Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) at Cornell University, the Land Grant University of New York State. NYSIPM, CCE, and Cornell are charged with advancing the lives and livelihoods of NYS residents through teaching, research, and public service. The Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP) part of NYSIPM is a federally mandated program whose primary mission is to promote proper use of pesticides and to serve as an objective source of information about pesticides for applicators, researchers, and the general public.

Position Summary:

As an innovative and experienced Pesticide Safety Education Digital Content Developer for NYSIPM, your role is pivotal in managing and enhancing their digital presence. You will work closely with the NYSIPM Digital Systems Specialist to ensure seamless integration of content into existing digital platforms of the Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP) and alignment with organizational goals. You will also collaborate with the digital team to maintain and update multiple websites, design and maintain databases, develop tools and resources to support pest management and pesticide safety outreach, and create web applications. Ensuring content accuracy, consistency, and optimization for Search Engine Optimization (SEO), you will provide prompt customer support, process online orders, and manage media assets with emphasis on the needs of the PSEP. You will collaboratively strategize content goals, track campaign performance, and analyze social media analytics in collaboration with the digital team. This position requires strong proficiency in digital content management, effective communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment. Under general direct supervision of the Digital Outreach and Development Coordinator and the Pesticide Safety Education Program Leader, responsibilities include but will not be limited to:

Responsibilities include:

Maintaining awareness of NYSIPM digital platforms with emphasis on those providing support to PSEP and communicate ongoing activities effectively.Assist in strategizing content goals and reaching target audiences through NYSIPM and PSEP channels while maintaining a sustainable digital footprint.Managing media assets such as photos, videos, etc. and ensuring integration with existing materials and developing systems to allow NYSIPM contributors to add to and access asset libraries.Assist in migrating and integrating the PSEP website into the NYSIPM-CALS platform, ensuring compatibility and compliance.Ensuring seamless integration of new content into existing digital platforms, maintaining accuracy and consistency.Formatting content for compatibility with Content Management Systems (CMS) and optimizing it for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to enhance visibility and accessibility.Assisting in web, social media and campaign tracking analytics.Providing backup support for digital events.Making PDFs and other electronic media accessible for posting to online content storage platforms.Maintaining websites, including identifying and fixing broken links, formatting content for the CMS, ensuring functionality, securing and accuracy.Developing and maintaining applications including SharePoint service for the Cornell Crop Pest Management Guidelines and PSEP online course system.Providing customer support for online content, including establishing Cornell Crop and Pest Management Guideline accounts and setting up and maintaining online conference registration sites.Provide support to the Pesticide Safety Education Outreach Specialist for the IPM online and certification training courses to ensure the back-end functionality of the website.Serving as the system administrator for the PSEP virtual server that hosts PSEP resources, ensuring smooth operation and security.Providing support to PSEP staff members regarding software image editing, video content, and conferences.

Additional input will be given by the NYSIPM Director, faculty and staff.

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory performance and availability of funding. This position will be physically located in Ithaca, New York with options for some remote work. Physical in-person meetings will occasionally be required at the NYSIPM main office in Geneva, NY.

Required Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Digital Media, Communications, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred and 3-5 years of professional experience.Experience working with ASP.NET, C#, Open XML and SQL as well as using IIS, MS SQL, and SharePoint.Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in website management, digital marketing, or technical support.Proficiency in website management, including experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) and web development tools.Experience developing and maintaining databases.Experience in managing media assets such as photos and videos, with proficiency in editing software like Photoshop or similar tools.Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, communicate ideas clearly, and contribute to brainstorming sessions and strategy meetings.Flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced environment, juggle multiple tasks simultaneously, and quickly learn new tools and technologies as needed.Ability to provide prompt and accurate customer support via email and other digital communication channels.Familiarity with system administration tasks, including server maintenance and security protocols.Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on industry trends and best practices in digital content management.Must be able to meet the travel requirements of the position, including having reliable transportation or having and maintaining a valid New York State driver’s license.Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color. Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills to ensure digital projects stay on track.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience using web analytics tools such as Google Analytics to track website performance and user behavior, and the ability to interpret data to inform content strategy.Understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) principles and techniques to optimize website content for better visibility and search engine rankings.Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and coordinate with team members to ensure timely delivery of projects.Knowledge of web accessibility standards and guidelines (e.g., WCAG) to ensure digital content is accessible to all users, including those with disabilities.Understanding of Payment Card Industry (PCI) credit card security standards and the ability to incorporate into to website development and maintenance.
