Petrographer

Braun Intertec is seeking a Petrographer to join our Concrete Science Division in the Chicago Office.  This individual will be working with a team of Scientist, Engineers and Technicians to solve materials related failures of structures.  This role will be working alongside Principal Petrographers with more than 30 years of experience, providing great mentorship on a growing team. 

Responsibilities:

Conduct petrographic analysis on concrete, masonry, aggregate, mortar and stuccoAssist in troubleshooting construction issuesPrepare samples for analysis and testingDevelop and execute project scopes to provide the required answers for our clientsWork as part of a team on projects from multiple areas of the country.

Required Skills:

Ability to interpret industry standard documents and follow laboratory methodsPossess technical aptitude to solve technical issues where solutions are undefined in typical practiceAbility to work with in a strong team environmentAbility to exercise creative thinking to bring solutions to internal and external clientsStrong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environmentFluency in Microsoft Word and ExcelGood written communication skillsWilling to travel (up to 10%)Understand the operation of petrographic equipment and microscope

Minimum Experience and Education:

5 or more years of experience conducting petrographic analysisBachelor’s degree in geologyFamiliar with industry standard such as ACI or ASTM documents and committees
