If you are a mission-driven individual looking for a challenging yet rewarding opportunity in correctional healthcare, join our team and help us provide top-tier medical and security services to an at-risk population! **Advanced Houston Specialty Hospital** is looking for a **Pharmacist** to join our team of health care professionals in our newly renovated facility at **205 Hollow Tree Lane, Spring, TX.** **Position Summary:** The Pharmacist is responsible for the accurate preparation, dispensation, and management of medications for incarcerated individuals, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional policies. The pharmacist collaborates with healthcare providers and security personnel to deliver safe and effective pharmaceutical care in a secure environment. **Essential Functions:** 1. Applies expert knowledge of drugs and related protocols, to verify physician orders for medications using pharmacy information system. Checks drug and dose in relation to stated patient issue and addresses automated alerts from the system regarding drug type, dose, and other metrics. 2. Review and interpret provider medication orders using the pharmacy information system; apply expert knowledge of pharmacology to verify appropriateness of drug type, dose, and therapeutic use, addressing automated alerts and clinical flags as needed. 3. Dispense and verify prescribed medications according to state and federal laws. 4. Adjust medication dosages based on established clinical protocols, patient-specific factors, and concurrent therapies; complete related clinical tasks, including those involving antimicrobial stewardship. 5. Manage controlled substances and inventory in compliance with DEA and facility policies, including detailed documentation, completion of checklists, and auditing of outdated medications in states where Pharmacy Technicians are not permitted to do so. 6. Provide drug information and consultative support to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare personnel. 7. Ensure compliance with formulary guidelines and participate in formulary management and cost-containment efforts. 8. Oversee medication storage, security, and expiration date monitoring within the facility. 9. Educate staff and patients on medication use, adherence, and potential side effects. 10. Participate in audits, inspections, and continuous quality improvement initiatives. 11. Document all pharmaceutical activities accurately in the electronic health record (EHR). 12. Maintain strict adherence to facility safety, security, and confidentiality protocols. It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management. **Education and Experience Requirements:** Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (B.S. Pharm.). Current and unrestricted Texas Pharmacist license. Two years hospital staff pharmacist experience, preferably in a correctional healthcare setting. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management. **Post Hire Requirements:** Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements to include an annual background check.
