Responsibilities Job Summary Under the direction of Informatics Leadership, the Pharmacy Informaticist is responsible for supporting the development of clinical information systems and information technology that assists clinicians in the safe delivery of evidenced-based care. This role assists with the planning, implementation, support and optimizing projects related to information systems and applications within the pharmacy service line. The Pharmacy Informaticist applies broad informatics knowledge (technical and process) to help deploy new system implementations and/or functionalities, as well as evaluate and optimize system utilization and workflows in alignment with the organizations mission and vision. This role participates in the development of workflows, system configuration, change documentation, optimization and support of staff for application functionality. The Pharmacy Informaticist serves as an advocate in promoting the safe use of information technology, as appropriate, and works in partnership with information resources to translate clinical and medication safety requirements into specifications for new or existing clinical information systems. This position is responsible to provide consultative support, trouble-shoot issues, and insure optimal health information system performance. Works to ensure that health information systems enhance quality, patient safety, efficiency, and supports population health in addition to patient engagement. The Pharmacy Informaticist is a high performing individual who collaborates with business operations and medication safety to understand and define system requirements to develop innovative solutions meeting the customers' needs. Utilizes knowledge of medications and pharmacy workflows to troubleshoot high complexity end-user issues, medication safety events, workflow problems, and enhancement requests for departmental users, associated medical staff, key stakeholders, management and leadership. Contributes to technical and workflow root cause analysis. Assists pharmacy leaders with medication event investigation, medication use system metrics and data analysis, evaluation of externally reported risk, and medication use system best practices to prioritize and coordinate system optimization to prevent error and patient harm. Acts as a consultant to healthcare professionals regarding utilization of pharmaceutical therapies and participates in Network committees, medication safety, and quality improvement initiatives as directed. Provides education and support for the implementation of projects, programs, safe use of medication use process systems, and pharmacy initiatives (i.e. automation, clinical monitoring, patient education, etc.). Serves as a preceptor for pharmacy informatics students. Actively participates in the education and training of new pharmacy employees, pharmacy students and pharmacy interns. Utilizes the appropriate analytic tools and process improvement techniques to assess and improve medication-use processes. Assesses published literature and/or database sources to identify best practices and/or guidelines relevant to appropriate, safe medication-use and identifies opportunities for pharmaceutical related changes. Perform clinical site visits to monitor progress in the adoption of clinical applications, to gain additional insight into the clinical environment and clinical issues, and to develop and refine the relationships with our clinics. Analyze business operations as they relate to design decisions and prioritize and implement requested changes to the system. On an as needed basis, performs in-depth analyses of workflows, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with the use of integrated applications with minimal assistance. Assists with the program development, implementation and support of the Pharmacy PGY1 and PGY2 residency. Demonstrates initiative, problem identification, resolution and analytical skills using fact-base information in evolving situations, while adhering to deadlines. Effective communications approach and delivery. Strong organizational skills, be able to prioritize multiple activities and objectives in a rapidly changing environment and deliver quality service. Demonstrates effective change management principles. Follows through to ensure final resolution of problems, recommending longer-term solutions when appropriate and communicating back to the individual reporting the problem. Brings work groups together to achieve consensus for system changes. Facilitates the two-way flow of communication for establishing and maintaining understanding between Information Technology (IT) and Clinical departments. Participates in the development of policies and procedures for area(s) of responsibility. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Communicates effectively (written and oral) across all levels of the organization and has the ability to determine the appropriate forum for each method. Acts as liaison between work teams and departments. Ability to independently prioritize and manage individual workload. Leads project teams, coordinates work activities with users and the Information Technology (IT) department to resolve conflicts between workflow and the clinical information systems, reports on work status and provides input on team performance. Utilizes expertise and understanding of all clinical applications to instruct and coach team members. Takes on project/engagement management responsibilities as required and assigned. Participates in post implementation change evaluation and supports users in maintaining changed processes. May assist in testing new system applications and other special assignments. Supports the integration and use of evidence-based methods, tools, and guidelines linked to effective outcomes, data analytics, including quality of care measures, to improve population health outcomes and global health. Supports clinical staff in the real time application of information to change healthcare delivery and affect patient outcomes. Maintains current knowledge of trends and advances in clinical practice and healthcare informatics, as well as new developments and innovations in hardware and software technology that fosters a continual optimization framework to advance the strategic mission of the organization. Expected to maintain current knowledge of Health Information System capabilities. Maintains professional growth and development through seminar, workshops and professional affiliations to keep current with trends and advances in clinical practice and healthcare informatics. Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree BS Pharmacy Sciences from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy Required Experience 5 years of Healthcare, consulting, or IT related experience that demonstrates an advanced understanding of the standard tools, workflow processes, and/or procedures and concepts used in the deployment and development of application software necessary to run the healthcare systems business, clinical or financial systems.
