Summary:
Reports to Manager. Under the supervision of an on-duty Pharmacist purchases medications and pharmaceutical supplies performs record keeping requirements maintains adequate inventory levels provides inventory actions and communications relative to shortages/recalls and alternative product source selection. Serves as a resource for product and vendor information. Collaborates with various departments as necessary for medication ordering inventory distribution and record keeping. Performs duties in compliance with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA).
Responsibilities:
Coordinates drug procurement operations and inventory management to ensure drug availability accurate inventory value assessment compliance to 340b optimized inventory turns and minimizes drug expirations in cooperation with the Pharmacy Purchasing team.
Synthesizes data from multiple sources including but not limited to the 340b program the �pharmacy own use� program anticipatory order data and alternative replenishment model data to produce a daily order that optimizes available purchase allotments and maximizes drug savings.
Oversees charitable pharmacy inventory and coordinates with charitable medication distributor to investigate expanded medication access as applicable.
Collaborates with department leadership to ensure that the pharmacy maintains Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) compliance.
Works with the 340b team to proactively review opportunities for 340b savings as well as validate the qualification of said opportunities.
Maintains responsibility for borrow and loan systems to hospital inpatient pharmacies as well as transfers to and from other outpatient locations as applicable. Provides reports of such activity to Pharmacy Purchasing team.
Establishes timely flow of purchasing receipts to Purchasing Specialist and/or accounts payable.
Processes drug recall information in a timely manner and coordinates reverse medication distributor sequestration and pickup.
Tracks credits and rebates in coordination with Purchasing Specialist.
Assists with assuring accurate pricing NDC listing and active inventory identification information within the pharmacy inventory system.
Assists with medication disposal collection receptacle pickup coordination and replenishment.
Assists in managing vaccine supply and storage.
Coordinates inventory to manage backorders shortages and recalls and secures acceptable product alternatives when necessary. Evaluates and adjusts par levels in response to ongoing utilization shortages waste and critical needs. Coordinates with Purchasing Specialist and Clinical Pharmacist Drug Shortage Management to alert operations team of any short-term or long-term backorders.
Coordinates and participates in the annual pharmacy medication inventory for designated pharmacy location(s).
Assists with maintaining purchasing records invoices receipts and inventory control records and coordinates document storage via offsite record storage vendor.
Generates purchasing and inventory reports as requested by departmental leadership.
Assists Manager and/or Pharmacy Purchasing Specialist to investigate expanded access to medications and supports collection and provision of data for such efforts.
Reviews and analyzes operations recommends operational changes and/or innovative technologies to increase efficiency. In collaboration with pharmacy technician supervisor is instrumental in developing and implementing operational changes.
Ensures compliance to established policies and procedures.
Communicates effectively with all levels of staff to facilitate the flow of operations.
Provides timely and accurate communication both written and verbal as appropriate regarding operational changes and continuous quality improvement activities including goals and objectives of the Pharmacy as they relate to assigned area.
Handles the receipt storage and disposal of hazardous sterile and nonsterile drugs products and preparations in compliance with United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Chapter <800> Hazardous Drugs � Handling in Healthcare Settings and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommendations
Maintains cleanliness and organization of all purchasing and drug storage areas.
Performs other duties as assigned.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
High school graduate or equivalent required. Completion of one to two years of college preferred.
Holds and maintains current unrestricted Rhode Island Pharmacy Technician II licensure and National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT).
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 2 years progressively more responsible related work experience as a pharmacy technician or technician specialist preferably gained in a similarly diverse and operationally complex health care environment. Additional related experience with pharmacy purchasing and inventory management preferred.
Knowledge of pharmacy information systems automated dispensing technology and MS Office applications including Word PowerPoint Excel and Outlook.
Demonstrates excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills.
Must have the ability to multi-task and reprioritize as needed while maintaining accuracy and service standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have the physical ability to lift carry and maneuver medication delivery equipment and pharmaceutical related inventories including the ability to grasp instruments and finger dexterity.
Work may require extended periods of time spent standing and walking.
Work requires the visual acuity and manual dexterity necessary to operate a personal computer and input data into the system using a typical keyboard and computer mouse to navigate multiple computer monitors.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Performs independently within department policies and practices.
Refers specific complex problems to supervisor or manager where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.
