Pharmacy IV Tech II
Summary The Pharmacy IV Technician II is responsible for preparing and delivering, on overage, 80-85% of all IV admixture solutions for Chesapeake Regional Medical Center while under the supervision of the Pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician II is also responsible for preparing and delivering IV admixtures to clinical units; ordering, receiving, invoicing, and inventorying department supplies and pharmaceuticals (controlled and non-controlled); and coordinating controlled drug distribution with Pharmacy Technician I and other Pharmacy staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned. + Prepare IV admixtures while under the supervision of a pharmacist and deliver the prepared solutions to the correct clinical unit + Maintain inventory in the IV admixture room, including ordering supplies from the storeroom + Notify the pharmacy buyer of special drugs and supplies needed for the area + Clean and organize the IV admixture room and the Laminar Flow Hoods using the proper techniques in accordance with hospital policies and procedures + Provide the charge technician with accurate records for charging/crediting purposes + Assist in providing the Pharmacy Director with statistics on discarded IVs every month + Generate appropriate computer records to fill IV medication charts for nursing units + Process drug returns from clinical units and return unused medications to stock + Assist in training new staff in using the proper technique for IV admixture preparation and inventory control + Maintain computerized controlled drug inventory per state, federal, and hospital regulations + Order controlled drug inventory from wholesaler per state, federal, and hospital regulations + Maintain computerized controlled drug inventory per state, federal, and hospital regulations + Inventory narcotic vault once a month + Perform random audits on selected narcotics as requested by the Director or Assistant Director + Perform pharmacy inspection on a monthly basis for expired medications + Prepare interdepartmental charge report monthly and inventory report annually + Maintain up-to-date labeling (price updates, reorder points) for all medications within the central pharmacy + Complete invoices as required by state and federal law + Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services + Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience Minimum Required Education: Successful completion of a Pharmacy Technician program Preferred Education: Not applicable Experience: 2+ years as a Pharmacy Technician Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Applicant must be registered with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician.
