JOB SUMMARY
The Pharmacy IV Technician aseptically prepares parenteral injections and infusion fluids for patient use in various departments throughout the Clinic System, under the direct supervision (in person or tele-video) of a Pharmacist. A significant percentage of the drugs prepared are classified as hazardous agents, therefore, the Pharmacy IV Technician is proficient in the preparation and disposal of such materials.
WORK SHIFT:
8 hour rotating shift – between the hours of 0500 – 2200.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred/Optional: Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician or other health-care related program.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: Must have one of the following combinations in addition to knowledge of sterile products preparation and computer skills (word processing and spreadsheet):
Two years pharmacy or IV technician work experience. OR One year of pharmacy or IV technician experience if certificated as a Pharmacy Technician (ChPT) orSix months of Pharmacy Technician experience that has consistent exposure to injectable medications and/or non-sterile compounding and certified as a Pharmacy Technician (ChPT) within one year of hire orIndividuals who have a minimum of two years of work-related experience with medications or aseptic technique, but without direct pharmacy experience, may be considered.Preferred/Optional: None
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: Pharmacy Technician registration or licensure OR an application for registration/licensure in pending status by the first date of employment. Registration/licensure must be obtained within 6 months and must remain in good standing and current.
*Security Health Plan employees minimum requirement may differ.
Preferred/Optional: Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (ChPT).
