**Position Highlights**
The Pharmacy Supervisor of Emergency and Critical Care Services will guide pharmacy involvement and medication optimization in the Intensive Care Unit, Neuro Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, and other related areas as well as mentoring a highly motivated team of clinical pharmacists. The ability and desire to lead a PGY2 Critical Care residency is preferred.

**A Brief Overview**
Provides patient care consistent with applicable regulations and the mission of Avera by monitoring and recommending optimal medication therapy, processing patient medication orders, and providing pharmaceutical information to staff and patients related to specific job assignments. Must utilize effective problem-solving skills as appropriate and accept personal responsibility and accountability for the patient's outcomes. Under general supervision, guides and oversees pharmacy services for assigned areas in compliance with professional standards, regulatory and licensing agency policies, and federal and state laws related to the practice of pharmacy. Supervises and provides overall direction for the pharmacy staff to provide effective workflow and operation within assigned areas of responsibility to ensure optimal care delivery for patients and support for healthcare professionals and communities served by Avera.
**What you will do**
+ Plans, directs and and coordinates pharmacy services in accordance with professional standards, regulatory and licensing agencies, federal and state laws and organizational policies and procedures.
+ Performs and evaluates functions related to pharmacy services such as processing medication orders, preparing and dispensing medications, evaluating patients for drug interactions or allergies, counseling patients, and evaluating and managing patients' medication therapies to ensure patient safety and optimal medication regimens.
+ Provides assistance to pharmacy buyers and management in coordinating the pharmacy inventory.
+ Serves in all pharmacist roles as needed/assigned including the Pharmacist in Charge.
+ Takes an active role in development of continuous quality improvement activities, reporting and evaluation of adverse medication events, development of error reduction strategies and promotion of patient safety.
+ Establishes operational and/or patient care delivery systems that meet department goals and objectives within the framework of the organizations' key initiatives, evaluates effectiveness and implements changes to achieve desired outcomes.
+ Participates in multi-disciplinary teams and committees to develop patient-centered services, designs and implements corresponding programs, and measures their effectiveness within the health system’s goals related to cost, quality and patient outcomes.
+ Provides guidance and direction to pharmacy staff to assist in pharmacy related issues through education and training. Oversees assigned pharmacy staff to ensure teamwork, accountability and efficiency expectations are met.
+ Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

**Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:**
+ Doctorate (PHD) Pharmacy doctorate
+ BPS Certification - Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) Upon Hire
+ Pharmacy practice experience
