What Individualized Care contributes to Cardinal Health
Clinical Operations is responsible for providing clinical specialties support and expertise in the areas of advice and consulting, research and patient care to internal business units and external customers.
The primary purpose of this position is the application to medication assistance programs on behalf of patients utilizing Atrix Assistance software to drive cost containment within a health system account. The goal is to offset patient medication financial responsibilities by enrolling qualifying patients into manufacturers’ Patient Assistance Programs, Copay Assistance Programs, and Grants/Foundations.
This is an onsite position working out of a health care facility in Lexington, KY and supporting additional sites remotely.
This is a full time position, 40 hours/week. Tentative schedule would be Monday-Friday 7AM-3:30PM, no weekends. Scheduled is based on availability
Responsibilities:
Recover drugs that are administered or dispensed to indigent patients without third party prescription coverageBuild relationships with and act as liaison to physicians, patients and pharmaceutical companies regarding program systems and processesAnswer questions regarding the Cardinal Health policies and procedures related to the reimbursement programRoutinely visit key contacts within the health system to ensure high level of service and assist in program participationMaintain daily contact with patients, nurses, physicians, social services, pharmacy personnel, drug sales reps and pharmaceutical companiesDiscuss medication options with physician and patient based on accessibility and availability (outpatient environment)Answer pharmacy’s questions regarding day-to-day operational issues, product/vendor informationManage and process applications to pharmaceutical manufacturers’ Patient Assistance Programs for recovery of drugs administered/dispensed to indigent patients without third party coverageManage and process applications to pharmaceutical manufacturers’ Copay Assistance Programs and Grants/Foundations for reimbursement of out of pocket costsEducate physician, patient and drug companies on program mission, guidelines, requirements and appropriate referralExtensive patient education/counseling to determine eligibility for assistanceIdentify and resolve rejected applications, including accessing comparable drug regimenRefer patients that do not qualify for programs to other outside assistance. I.e. local charitiesManage drug recovery application processMonitor and track value of drugs recovered for billing and reporting processesMaintain security and confidentiality of patient information
Qualifications
5-7 years of work experience in customer service, pharmacy operations, sales or purchasing exposure preferredAbove average organizational skillsStrong analytical skillsMust be self-motivated and have the ability to understand and follow instructionsStrong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)Strong written and verbal communicationAble to work independently and solve problems on behalf of Cardinal and the customerMust be able to prioritize work to maximize job effectivenessExcellent interpersonal skillsStrong ability to work under pressure and meet deadlinesMust be detail oriented with strong follow-up skillsStrong telephone presence/etiquetteBetter than average layman’s knowledge of various medications, medication classes, medical ailments and standard treatmentsKnowledge of hospital and clinic operations, preferredExperience working in a high volume, dynamic (changing) environment, preferredExperience working with the public in a healthcare environment, preferredExperience with low-income/special needs public is preferredExperience with social programs and/or charitable organization is preferredExperience with the Epic Systems medical software is preferred
