The Pharmacy Team Leader serving in an operational or clinical capacity shall be responsible for the managerial oversight of pharmacy staff and processes and clinical programs to assure successful execution of all activities related to the pharmacy department’s daily operation. A key role of this position includes staff communications, human resource management, planning, supervision, and coordination of general operations and/or clinical workflow to enhance productivity. The Team Leader shall also be able to deliver quality health care as a staff pharmacist.
Responsibilities Human Resources ManagementProvides direct daily supervision of employees and manages front line operations and/or the execution of clinical activities for the assigned area and primary shift of responsibility.Communicates effectively with all pharmacy employees through regular interactions (eg, staff huddles, email, and one-on-one meetings with direct reports).Conducts annual competency assessments and performance evaluations for pharmacists and technicians by the assigned deadlines.Assists with administrative call responsibilities with the other Pharmacy Team Leaders and Managers. Handles administrative needs while present during their staffing shifts.Interviews, selects, hires and retains employeesEnsures orientation and training for employeesPlanning and developmentAssists the Pharmacy Department Managers and Director in setting departmental goals and implementing projects that advance both distributive and clinical pharmacy services. Utilizes time management and communication skills to execute assigned projects by the assigned deadline.Assists the Pharmacy Department Managers and Director in implementing revisions to the pharmacist and technician staffing schedules/grids to adjust for census, workload, and to achieve departmental goals and strategic objectives outlined in the RMC Operations/Clinical Action PlanCompliance Has working knowledge of all State and Federal laws and regulations affecting the practice of pharmacy.Assists the Operations/Clinical Managers in ensuring both clinical and operational procedures are in compliance with federal, state, local, regulatory and accreditingPerformance Improvement Participates in performance improvement activities with a focus on work process improvement and medication safety. Documents investigative follow-up on reported medication events and provides feedback to employees directly involved in medication events/errors.Manages staff performance and compliance with both clinical and operational pharmacy policies and procedures, and regulatory and accreditation requirements. Executes employee accountability process up to and including terminationManages front line operations of area of accountability related to meeting/exceeding departmental goals, 5 keys of excellence, DCH Mission and VisionMaintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee HandbookMust adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.All other duties as assigned. Qualifications D. or B.S. Degree in pharmacy required. Residency or prior supervisory experience is preferred. Must be currently licensed or license eligible to practice pharmacy in the State of Alabama. Must be licensed within 90 days. Requires history of, and demonstration of, effective verbal and written communication skills. Requires good organizational and time management skills. Participation in professional organizations is strongly encouraged. Must be able to operate computer, calculator, telephone, and other pharmaceutical equipment.
