Job Description: PHARMACY TECHNICIAN-LEVEL I Department(s): Pharmacy Job Codes #: 582 Summary Assists a licensed pharmacist with the preparation and distribution of medications according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. Assists with maintaining medication inventory and supplies according to established policies and procedures. Contributes to the effective operation of the pharmacy department. Maintains knowledge and skills required for the position. Must demonstrate ethical conduct and maintain confidentiality of patient information. Job Components A. Core Duties and Responsibilities: o Fills physician orders, medication carts, or stock requisitions accurately. o Delivers medications and supplies to patient care areas per protocol. o Assists in receiving and stocking pharmaceuticals and supplies. o Responsible for answering telephone calls and requests at pharmacy pickup/drop off window. o Maintains a clean, neat, and well-organized work area. o Utilizes hospital computer system for order communication functions at all levels covered by security code. o Enters charges and credits for patient medications. o Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date. o Checks patient nutritional supplement list and prepares supplements for delivery to patients. o Maintains records or other required documentation accurately and files them in appropriate location. o Observes all safety guidelines and adheres to policies and procedures. o Reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy or Pharmacist-In Charge. o Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and employee information. o Works cooperatively with all staff and is punctual and dependable. o Performs all duties in a manner to enhance the image South Central Regional Medical Center. B. Essential Skill Competencies: o Procures and distributes medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. o Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures. o Contributes to the effective operation of the department. o Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department. o Maintains competence required for current job title/position. o Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. o Accountability and performance standards. o Organizational standards. C. Education/Regulatory Requirements: o Must be 18 years of age o Valid driver’s license o High School diploma or equivalent. College courses preferred but not required. o Registration with the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy must be current. D. Interactive Skills: o Must be able to type 30 words per minute. o Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. o Moderate computer and data entry skills. E.
