Position Summary:
Performs duties to ensure activities and regulatory tasks occur on a timely basis and meets appropriate/required guidelines; policies and procedures. Maintains and optimizes the automated dispensing systems and temperature monitoring system. When requested, assists the pharmacist in the, filling medication requests, maintaining pharmacy inventory, and may assist in the preparation of IV admixtures. Performs duties in accordance with that of hospital policies and procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines. Responsible for organizing work load as assigned. Displays professional, safe conduct in all interactions. Maintains positive working relationships with staff, other departments, physicians and peers. Professionalism – represents CHI St. Luke’s Memorial positively in actions and appearance.May serve in leadership and advisory role as assigned for the pharmacy technician group in areas of work processes and practices, training, schedules, performance standards, continuing education, competency validation, representation at appropriate meetings, and other areas as assignedCoordinate the use of the automated drug distribution system for pharmacy such as database management, resetting of par and reorder levels, cabinet optimization, coordinating maintenance, service support liaison and otherCoordinate the use of the automated dispensing system and temperature monitoring system to assure proper system operation, alarm monitoring and reporting and other Assist the pharmacist in filling medication orders, prescriptions, and pharmacy stockAccurately prepare medications for the pharmacist to check, when appropriate, including appropriate auxiliary labels, in a timely mannerAssure that a pharmacist’s final check and signature documentation of all products has occurred when appropriate prior to their deliveryAttend promptly to the directives of the pharmacist and supervisory personnelAccurately prepare sterile products in a timely manner, adhering to required aseptic technique at all timesAccurately select the appropriate drug product(s) required for the preparation of sterile products and assure that all necessary components are available for final check by the pharmacistMay be Responsible for purchasing activities, assisting other areas within the pharmacy as needed.Promotes department-based goals and contributes to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff. Establishes/maintains effective and respectful communication in all collaborative relationships. Rotates weekend/call responsibilities in a professional and accountable fashion if applicable.Performs duties in accordance with that of hospital policies and procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines. Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) &
Direct Pharmacy Technician work experience (which met eligibility requirements for state licensure and/or certification through nationally recognized accredited agency.) OR
Completion of a nationally approved, accredited formal Pharmacy Technician training program
Licensure/Certification
Minimum
Licensed Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) &
BLS certification - through an approved AHA program &
*Completion of an ACPE approved 40 hour sterile products course
(*Must be completed within 60 days of date of hire &/or transfer into position)
Preferred
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
