SUMMARY
The Lead Pharmacy Assistant Buyer provides pharmaceutical care to patients within the health system by demonstrating proficiency in knowledge, skills, and leadership in a designated area of pharmacy operations. Will be responsible for coordinating daily activities as it applies to designated area with Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Management. Includes mentoring and instructing new technicians in designated areas of responsibility and developing policies and procedures to optimize general workflow and better provide effective patient care and pharmacy services.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Minimum: High School education or equivalent. Preferred: Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training program, or two years of college with emphasis in math, science, or medical field applications.CREDENTIALS/LICENSURE:
Minimum: Completion of Pharmacy Technician Certification programs via PTCB up to and including Advanced Pharmacy Technician Certification. Preferred: Completion of Technician Product Verification Certificate via PTCB as one of the four certifications needed for Advanced Pharmacy Technician Certification.Related Experience:
Minimum: 5 (five) years of Pharmacy work experience, with at LEAST 2 (two) years as an inpatient pharmacy technician level IV OR Level V technician at Trinity Health, Muskegon.Preferred: Supervisory or leadership experience preferredOther Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Minimum: Good written and verbal communication skills. Competent math skills (multiplication, division, addition, subtraction) in calculations involving fractions. Decimals, percentages, and volumes. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Able to evaluate, analyze workflow, and coordinate work action.Computer Competency: Familiarity with standard desktop and windows based computer system, including email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions including, but not limited to, our main Electronic Health Record (EHR) EPIC.
Physical/Mental Skills: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., preparing IV admixtures, use of a computer keyboard). May require lifting and carrying loads up to 40lbs., including boxes, equipment, unit dose cassettes, and IV solutions. Stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, to file documents in lower file drawers). Sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) often. Must be able to physically operate equipment necessary for the job.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Procurement and Inventory Management: Ordering medications and supplies to maintain adequate stock levels while avoiding overstocking or shortages. This includes monitoring usage trends and forecasting needs.Vendor Coordination: Communicating with pharmaceutical vendors to negotiate pricing, manage contracts, and ensure timely delivery of orders.Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that all procurement activities comply with hospital policies, state and federal regulations, and accreditation standards.Stock Management: Monitoring and organizing inventory, including conducting regular audits to identify discrepancies, expired medications, or returns.Collaborative Support: Working closely with pharmacists, clinicians, and other staff to address medication needs and ensure seamless operations.Technology Utilization: Using pharmacy management systems and inventory software to track orders, update records, and generate reports.Financial Oversight: Managing budgets, analyzing costs, and identifying opportunities to reduce expenses without compromising quality.Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
