The **UW MEDICAL CENTER - MONTLAKE PHARMACY DEPARTMENT** has an outstanding opportunity for a **PHARMACY TECHNICIAN 2 – OUTPATIENT - SOUTH LAKE UNION** .
**WORK SCHEDULE**
• Full-Time/40 hours per week
• Day Shift
**POSITION HIGHLIGHTS**
• Perform specialized, technical pharmacy tasks within the medical clinics and outpatient pharmacy areas and act as a liaison to clinic personnel and maintain a controlled substance area
• Engage in the preparation of sterile and non-sterile medications and other pharmacy-related functions
• This position provides an exciting opportunity to work in our UW Medicine South Lake Union Pharmacy. This pharmacy is in a unique setting and will work closely with medical staff in patient care clinics such as the Diabetes, Retina, and UW Neighborhood clinics that share the same building
• All activities of Pharmacy Technicians are performed under the direct supervision of a registered Pharmacist
**PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
• Perform certified order entry of medication orders into the ambulatory pharmacy computer system and online processing and filling of prescriptions.
• Assist patients with new prescriptions and refills and determine payment method
• Compound and prepare medications from a physician order, which may include compounded sterile and non-sterile products and investigational drugs under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist
• Maintain controlled substance documentation and complete assigned outdate checking and unit inspections.
• Troubleshoot technical questions related to specialized area and direct clinical inquiries requiring a Pharmacist’s professional judgment
• Accurately maintain inventory of pharmaceuticals and supplies. Coordinate the movement of stock items when drugs are in short supply
• Train pharmacy assistants, technicians, students, and interns on specialized job duties as assigned
Competitive candidates will be able to effectively triage and communicate with patients, have the ability to perform computer entry of prescriptions and charge/credit data, and perform sterile compounding of pharmaceuticals under the supervision of a Pharmacist. Inherent to success in this position are organizational skills and use of professional judgment.
**REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS**
Six (6) months of experience as a Pharmacy Technician 1 or equivalent education/experience
**LEGAL REQUIREMENT**
State of Washington Pharmacy Technician certification
