Pharmacy Technician 2-HomeCare

Job Summary: The Pharmacy Technician-Two (2), Home Care, assists the Home Care Clinical Pharmacist in the performance of his or her packaging, manipulative, repetitive, and other non-discretionary tasks.  Performs prescription order entry and refills.  Obtains routine clinical information (lab results, history and physical, medication profile, enteral assessment, etc.).  Maintains a calendar for regularly scheduled refills of customer prescriptions.  Meets regularly with distribution staff to review daily dispensing activities and delivery coordination.  Initiates delivery tickets, assembles products and stages (packaging) of supplies and drugs for delivery.  Tracks authorizations prior to dispensing product to ensure expedient payment.  Runs eligibility checks for authorization of product prior to dispensing.  Is responsible for the aseptic compounding of Intravenous (IV) solutions, labeling and preparing IV solution and related supplies for delivery.  Must maintain an aseptic work environment.  Organizes and facilitates workload well.  Maintains all required documentation and completes required competencies.  Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: High School Diploma required. Minimum one year of experience in hospital pharmacy, hospital or similar setting required. Completion of an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited technician training program or hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Ability to speak and write clearly and accurately.  Ability to exhibit good communication skills to positively interact with employees, patients, patient families/caregivers and the general public.  Able to communicate effectively in English, in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision.  Able to distinguish colors as necessary; write, hear, read, and speak sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: California Pharmacy Technician License required.  Certified Pharmacy Technician by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required.
