JOB SUMMARY:
Pharmacy technician trainees are trained to assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technician trainees will be trained to work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist. Pharmacy technician trainees are trained to be a part of the first line to providing safe high-quality pharmaceutical care to our patients.

WORK SCHEDULE:Weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., preparing IV admixtures, use of a computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying of light loads (up to 40lbs), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions, and stooping or kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers); walking or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary; must be able to physically operate the equipment used for the job
CRITICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods; work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff; handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule; set priorities and solve problems; respond quickly to emergency requests; communicate effectively (orally and in writing) and assist in meeting the pharmaceutical care needs of the patients.
OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS:
Potential for exposure to infectious patients or materials and hazardous and toxic substances (including chemotherapy, cytotoxic drugs, and cleaning solutions); potential for sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items; potential for musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are not used.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Enrolls, Participates and Completes the Munson Medical Center Pharmacy’s State Approved Pharmacy Technician Training Program within the first year of employmentProcure and distribute medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocolsMaintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and proceduresContributes to the effective operation of the departmentParticipates in the quality improvement activities of the departmentMaintains competence requires for current job title/positionsPerforms other duties as assigned by supervisor
