The Technician must be skilled in all functions of the department that do not require the professional judgment or activity of the Pharmacist. **Responsibilities** **Operational Functions** + Prepares and distributes medication products to fulfill medication orders. + Ensures appropriate and adequate medication inventory by restocking, rotating stock, removing expired medications, repackaging medications, and ordering supplies. + Answers the telephone and directs calls to appropriate personnel in a professional and courteous manner. + Accurately compounds sterile and non-sterile products, including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition, in accordance with facility, state, and federal laws and regulations. + Performs patient billing in the electronic medical record. + Ensures proper medication storage. + Maintains a neat, clean, orderly, and secure department. **Professionalism** + Inspires and motivates members of the health care team by building department morale. + Strives to ensure the success of the team over personal success. + Effectively balances the responsibilities of the team and individual team members. + Demonstrates a commitment to the development and achievement of common goals within the department and hospital system. + Demonstrates a commitment to the improvement of patient care, customer satisfaction, and team member performance. + Encourages and provides constructive feedback to identify opportunities for improvement within the department. **Compliance** + Ensures the appropriate preparation and dispersal of medications in accordance with facility, state, and national laws and regulations. + Prioritizes the importance of preventing errors, accidents, and infections within the workplace and reports potential or actual concerns immediately. + Completes all competency and skills assessment requirements. + Participates in and completes pharmacy technician orientation. **Qualifications** **Minimum Requirements** Identify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position. **Preferred or Specialized** Not required to perform the essential functions of the position. **Education:** High School diploma or GED **Experience:** At least one (1) year of hospital or retail pharmacy experience. **License(s)/Certification(s):** · Registration in good standing with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy · Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. **Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:** · Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English. · Basic computer knowledge using word processing, e-mail, and web browser. · Teamwork · Professionalism · Problem-solving and analytical ability · Planning and organizing skills · Microsoft Office experience · Independent Judgement & Decision Making · Flexibility · Communication – written & verbal · Accountability **Other:** Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
