Responsible for purchasing and reconciling of all pharmaceutical products and maintaining appropriate inventory levels of pharmaceuticals and equipment/supplies within the pharmacy. The Purchaser serves as a resource person for product and vendor information, and group purchasing contracting, and also maintains accurate records and reports regarding pharmaceutical products. This individual utilizes system reports to optimize the inventory quantities (e.g. minimize incidence of medication stock outs), responsible for coordinating workflow and services related to drug and equipment/supplies procurement processes. Responsibilities: + Assists in managing influenza and other vaccine supply including NJIIS temperature logs as necessary. + Maintains oversight of the management of emergency medication supply situations. + Maintains pre-defined list of “fast movers” medications with wholesaler, in the event of a downtime. + Communicates significant price changes to pharmacy management. + Coordinates inventory to resolve/manage backorders, shortages or recalls and secures acceptable product alternatives when necessary. Evaluates and adjusts par levels in response to ongoing utilization, shortages, waste and critical needs. + Collaborate with pharmacy staff to ensure drugs with restrictions or spikes in usage are available in sufficient quantity for patient care. + Completes expiration checks for CPM medications and reorders as appropriate. Monitor that CPM cycle counts are being performed by pharmacy technician staff as assigned. + Maintains overstock inventory, as appropriate. + Develops effective strategies for accomplishing financial goals and objectives established by the Department Director as they relate to the purchasing processes. Makes consistent efforts to control costs while seeking ways to improve department performance. + Provides timely communication to Pharmacy staff regarding the status of drug shortages. + Receives notification of medication recalls + coordinates and/or completes retrieval of medication from inventory, patient care areas, Inpatient and Outpatient Pharmacy. + Manages the purchasing of all pharmaceutical and related products and supplies for inpatient, and outpatient infusion areas. + Participates in weekly Inventory Management and System Shortage meetings. Helps develop and implement operational plans to prevent/manage medication shortages and their resultant impact to patient care. + Works in conjunction with the Pharmacy Tech Specialists to coordinate/manage coverage of tasks for one another. + Proposes formulary deletions based on data regarding usage trends to facilitate cost saving initiatives. + Assists with the provision of pharmacy services to hospital inpatients and PMPH outpatients by assisting the staff as needed. + Develop training material and train staff to proper processes regarding medication procurement and receipt. + Participates in continuous quality assessment, improvement activities and medication safety initiatives. + Coordinates returns of expired medication with Reverse Distributor Company, including conducting controlled substance reconciliation. Credentials: + Lic-Pharmacy Technician Reg (Required) + NJ Board of Pharmacy Registration + Certified Pharmacy Technician - PTCB (Required) + CPhT- Certified Pharmacy Tech Education or Equivalent Experience: + H.S.
