Pharmacy Technician - Registered

SUMMARY

Performs a wide range of routine and complex pharmaceutical duties in support of pharmacy operations. Assumes a lead role among support staff within the pharmacy. Relieves the Pharmacist of duties related to the intake of new prescription information and the handling of Schedule II controlled substances per MA Board of Pharmacy regulations. Must possess Pharmacy Technician Registration, as required by the Massachusetts Pharmacy Board of Registration as well as National Pharmacy Training Certification.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g. GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution or governmental unit required. Graduate of an approved pharmacy technician program or equivalent institutional/retail pharmacy experience. Must possess and maintain Pharmacy Technician Registration as required by Massachusetts Pharmacy Board of Registration (pharmacy technician trainee’s are expected to become registered upon completion of the 500 hours of supervised work). Requires knowledge of laws and regulations related to pharmacy practice and patient confidentiality. Requires knowledge of medication abbreviation and symbols, common dosage calculations, and storage requirements. American Heart AssociationBasic Life Support (BLS) required.Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.

EXPERIENCE

One to two years’ experience in a service industry is preferred. Prior pharmacy experience, cash handling experience, and basic computer skills are desirable. Must be at least 18 years of age.

SKILLS

Working knowledge of pharmacy operations and cash handling experience preferred. Knowledge of laws and regulations related to pharmacy practice and patient confidentiality preferred.Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills are preferred. Must be team oriented and demonstrate good customer service skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and strong interpersonal skills when interacting with patients and colleagues.Sound judgment with the ability to work and make decisions in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of medication abbreviation and symbols, common dosage calculations, and storage requirements preferred. Basic computer skills desirable.
