Background: Modeling work in FemCare on how a feminine hygiene pad fits to the consumer's body and how fluids interact with the consumer's pad and body have both developed significantly over the past 10 to 15 years, but have thus far existed as separate entities. Fit modeling has largely ignored fluid and assumed a dry pad fit condition, while fluids modeling assumes a flat or otherwise static product, receiving fluid under the best of circumstances. We wish to address these shortcomings by combining the methods and expanding beyond.
Computational solvers have been evolving to combine structural and fluid physics. We see an opportunity to explore bringing these two modeling areas together to address current limitations, broadening the predictive capabilities of both and adding to our portfolio of sustainable competitive advantage.
The intern in this role will map the space and create a proof-of-concept that brings these models together effectively creating a virtual simulation of our consumers' experience with our products with respect to both fit and fluid behavior.
Job Qualifications
The ideal student would be proficient in coding (Python, etc.) to address minor hurdles in the developing workflow, and hopefully deliver an end product that will pave the way for screening products with a comparatively rapid turnaround time and little to no material cost.
Desired qualifications/experience:
· Flow-3D | ANSYS fluent | OpenFOAM
· Coding or developmental codes (e.g. government lab codes: MOOSE – from Idaho National Lab)
Experience in these would also be a plus:
· LSDYNA/Abaqus
· Python coding
