Axient's Systems Engineering Group (SEG) seeks a Phenomenology Modeler to develop and implement advanced models and simulations of physical phenomena in support of the Missile Defense Agency and US Navy.  The phenomena of interest include missile debris, missile plumes and reentry wakes, atmospheric propagation effects for RF and IR signals, and the effects on signal propagation of various types of clutter, including land and sea clutter.  Position is located in Columbia, MD.

What you will do... Research, design, and develop models and simulations of physical phenomena related to missile defensePerform analysis on phenomena associated to threats to support internal and external customersWork with software developers and managers to transition algorithms and tools to formal C++ productsWork with SEG leadership and other subject matter experts to develop phenomenology-related project road mapsContribute to technical memos and white papers that summarize research, threat capabilities, or other areas of interest or concernPresent technical work and provide technical expertise at meetings with customers, collaborators, and competitors Skills you will need...

Minimum Requirements

 

Must have or must be able to obtain a DoD security clearance at the Secret level.  Must be able to maintain the required clearance. Eligibility for cleared access in this instance requires US citizenship.Master of Science degree (or Bachelor of Science and 2-5 years of experience) in physics, mathematics, or engineeringStrong analytical, logical, and problem-solving skillsMathematical background in areas such as statistics, linear algebra, differential equations, and numerical methodsStrong computational skills (C/C++, MATLAB, Python, or equivalent)Experience working on complex technical projectsGood written and verbal communication skillsHighly motivated. Possesses the ability to learn rapidly and work independently or on a team

 

Desired Qualifications

 

Familiarity with version-control (Git), issue tracking (JIRA), collaboration software (Confluence), and cross-language software integration tools (SWIG).Familiarity with high-performance computing environmentRadar, IR sensor, and missile defense experience preferredExperience working with a C++ API
