Major Responsibilities: 

Collaborates with individual giving/foundation colleagues and other philanthropy staff to develop compelling funding proposals and concepts, reports, and donor communications collateral for UMMH priority programs using a variety of mediums, accurately transforming complex material into highly substantive, visually appealing, and inspiring content for support of UMMH priorities. Supports the production of donor materials for a portfolio of major institutional fundraising priorities by participating in strategic discussions and producing donor communications that raise awareness and drive resources to those initiatives. Becomes a content expert on UMMH integrated programs and represents Philanthropy in internal discussions related to developing strategic communications plans and collateral to support those programs. Creates and oversees a communications plan that develops, designs and coordinates donor-specific impact stewardship reports and communications to educate, engage, inspire, and thank top donors for their generosity; manage the production and delivery of stewardship reporting.Identifies, deploys, and leverages technology applications and multi-channel communications strategies and tools that enhance and modernize stewardship practices with a focus on increasing efficiency while also maintaining excellence in personalization and communications standards for stewarding and enhancing the relationships between UMMH and its donors at all levels, with a focus on those who have made principal and major gifts.Stays informed about emerging trends and developments in healthcare philanthropy, and communications strategies, and applies insights to inform our approach.Writes and edits promotional copy for priority events and initiatives. This could involve writing scripts for leadership members for key engagement and philanthropic events, and creating background materials for staff and board members. Serves as the marketing liaison and communications strategy expert for the Philanthropy team, introducing marketing requirements and opportunities early in the strategic process and providing support and guidance throughout execution and creation of projects and deliverables.Writes creative, engaging copy for annual giving solicitations, donor-centric websites, and other mass-market fundraising and engagement efforts, including via social media.Fulfills other writing, copyediting, proofreading, and editorial duties as needed.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

Minimum of 8 years of professional work experience as a writer with at least 5 years' experience with philanthropy writing for high-net-worth individuals and foundations.  Experience developing and packaging fundraising materials, concept notes, white papers, proposals, grant proposals, reports, grant reports, fact sheets, one-pagers, appeals and direct mail donor solicitations. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write in a range of voices and styles for varied projects with diverse audiences. Strong research skills. Able to translate complex information into clear, jargon-free language that conveys key messages.Experienced and dependable proofreader and editor. Fluency with style guides. Exceptional attention to detail. Solid visual design sense to help ensure effective and compelling donor products.Strong project management, analytical, and organizational skills, including ability to manage timelines, communications, and production of donor pieces with numerous UMMH partners and across teams. Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively as a team member.Ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, including urgent and high-level requests. Flexible, responsive, and able to work effectively and maintain composure under pressure. Must have long-range planning skills, a creative approach to problem solving, and the ability to be flexible and open to new ideas.A high level of energy and self-confidence, a positive “can-do” attitude, and theability to function at peak in a fast-paced high expectation environment are essential.
