The Department of Pathology at Montefiore Medical Center is one of the largest and most comprehensive medical center laboratories on the east coast. With a staff of nearly 700 associates and more than 50 pathologists and PhDs, our laboratories perform more than 10 million laboratory test results, interpretations, and diagnostic consultations each year. The pathology department is seeking a Phlebotomist.
Responsibilities:
• Perform and execute proper phlebotomy techniques in order to obtain patient blood samples via a needle stick.
• Review laboratory requisitions and test orders for accuracy prior to performing phlebotomy.
• Ensure proper and accurate specimen labeling and records collection and receipt of specimens in the laboratory system.
• Centrifuging and preparing specimens for pick up.
• Adhere to proper infection control practices and HIPAA policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma/GED is required
• Phlebotomy certificate or experience required including 100 successful venipunctures on adults and 25 infant heel/finder sticks
• In some instances, ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time is necessary.
This position is located at the Wakefield campus in the Pathology - Rapid Response Lab. The hours will be 6:00am - 9:00am and with varying days working alternate weekends.
