What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for a phlebotomist. This position will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services. This is a full-time onsite position supporting the NIH office based out of Bethesda, MD.
Draw patient blood for requested tests, using needles, finger sticks or other means.
Collect and/or process specimens from study participants (including but not limited to blood, urine, and mucosal specimens) for management and transportation preparation per coordinating protocol; generate numeric tracking labels for samples prior to submitting samples.
Follow-up on stipulation requests to ensure Good Clinical practices (GCP) Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) according to Federal regulations; reinforce research participant’s instructions in the proper technique of various self-administered treatments and documents the activities performed.
Determine donor suitability, according to interview results, vital signs, and medical history.
Note patients' vital sign information in patient charts.
Label blood sample correctly; match specimens to patients.
Prepare blood samples for transport to laboratory of testing.
Dispose of contaminated and biohazardous materials in accordance with laws, regulations, and procedures.
Coordinate the retrieval of samples from the laboratory storage facility upon investigators' request.
Note blood collection information in patients’ records, as required.
Identify patients by reviewing their identity documents, including ID, medical records or other means.
Perform clerical duties (answer phone, copy and/or file medical records) as assigned to meet the needs of the research participants.

What You Will Need:
Associate degree or High School diploma plus 2 years of additional experience in lieu of an Associate degree
A minimum of ONE (1) year of experience as a phlebotomist
Phlebotomist Certification
Have superior customer service in a Healthcare setting.
Attention to Detail with excellent planning/organizational and time management skills.
Ability to embrace change and demonstrate flexibility.
Have effective verbal communication.
Proficient in Microsoft Suite
What Would Be Nice To Have:
Certification in Patient Care Technician or Nursing Aid Certification preferred.
CPR Certification
Previous experience in patient scheduling, recruitment, screening, and/or on-site visits.
Analysis and/or quality assurance.
Previous experience with the National Institute of Health (NIH).
The annual salary range for this position is $42,000.00-$70,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
