Job Description

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Essential SkillsSpecimen collectionPhlebotomyBlood drawPhlebotomy on all types of patientsExperience with hard sticks and needlesUrine and thyroid testingData entryStrong customer service skillsPhlebotomy certificationAdditional Skills & QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED required1-2 years of experience neededComputer skillsExperience in hospital, urgent care, or doctor's office settingsGeriatric experience is a plusWork Environment

The work environment is a doctor's office. The phlebotomist is expected to perform between 15-20 draws daily and will stand for the majority of their shift. The role involves working both alone and with other employees. The position requires working from 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday, with a typical end time around 4:30pm.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
