Job Title: Phlebotomist - ARLJob Description The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and recommend workflow improvements. This position involves blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, decontaminating, and updating patient information. Responsibilities + Perform blood draws and label specimens. + Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data. + Decontaminate equipment and update patient information. + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. + Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously. + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles. + Fully understand all physicians' orders. + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. + Ensure accuracy of test requisitions or computer labels. + Package specimens for transport. + Store specimen samples at the required temperature and in appropriate containers. + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual department training sessions. + Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills + Phlebotomy + Blood Draw + Specimen Collection Additional Skills & Qualifications + Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. + High School Diploma or GED required. Work Environment The work environment includes a patient service center and a doctor's office. The location is not large. The position requires standing for most of the day, except when drawing blood, as the primary task will be processing drug screens. The candidate will work at two different sites to complete their 40 hours: M&T at Willow Oaks Corp Drive from 8am-4:30pm, and Wed-Fri in Arlington, Virginia, from 8am-4:30pm. The role requires performing 15-20 draws daily.
