Job Description
The main function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, decontaminate equipment, and update patient information.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collections (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand and follow all physician orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are 100% correct against the script.Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperature.Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow specific procedures to maintain the integrity of the specimen for transport.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (if required by state regulations).Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.0-2 years of experience in a related role.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with venipuncture, order of draw, and blood collection techniques.Ability to follow detailed procedures and protocols.Work Environment
This position is stationary and based in Livonia, MI. The work environment is a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. The company offers significant growth opportunities within a large organization.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.40 - $20.40/hr.
