Job Title: Certified Phlebotomist

Job Description

The main function of a Certified Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and conduct decontamination.Update patient information as required.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collection such as urine or fecal samples in a clear and courteous manner.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the script to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes.Follow procedures specific to protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimen during transport.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department training sessions.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed required.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.2 years plus of experience as a Certified Phlebotomist required.Must have experience with Pediatrics, Adolescence, and Geriatrics.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in specimen processing is highly advantageous.Work Environment

This is a Patient Service Center, very busy seeing 80-90 patients a day, working with one other Phlebotomist. Must be experienced and confident with all aspects of Phlebotomy.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
