Phlebotomist I (Birmingham/Hoover/Tuscaloosa)
Job Description
The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. The position involves working in a fast-paced environment and requires excellent customer service skills.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes in a clear and courteous manner.Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.Understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Ensure accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department training.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential Skills
1+ years of phlebotomy experience in a hospital or clinical settingcan perform 30+ blood draws/volume, including all age groups from pediatric to geriatric.Strong phlebotomy skills, including blood draw and specimen collection and processing.Strong customer service skills.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Flexibility to work at different sites.Knowledge in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, coagulation, urinalysis.High school diploma required; 2+ years of experience preferred.Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $18.50/hr.
