Job Description
The main function of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods to patients, and ensuring all specimens are properly labeled and processed.
OBGYN/Family practice clinic - 830am-530pm, with one hour lunch.
NEED to be comfortable with 30-40 draws/day.
NEED Geriatric/PEDS experience***
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.Update patient information as required.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously to patients.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand and follow physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the script with 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow specific procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.2-4 years of experience in phlebotomy, including outpatient draw experience.Experience with venipuncture, blood draws, specimen collection, and patient care.Experience in pediatrics and geriatrics.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working in a Family/OBGYN practice.Ability to work independently and be self-sufficient.Work Environment
This position involves working in an IOP (Integrated Outpatient) and Family/OBGYN practice. The role requires handling 30-40 draws per day and involves working alone at the site. The work environment is fast-paced, and the phlebotomist needs to be self-sufficient and capable of managing tasks independently.
