Summary:
A Phlebotomist III performs the duties of a Phlebotomist I and II and is trained to support and teach specimen collection from all patient populations. A Phlebotomist I Responsible for the collection of blood and other specimens from all patient populations using prescribed procedures with accuracy, skill, professionalism, and superb customer service. Duties may require on and off-site phlebotomy, specimen transport and specimen delivery duties. Other specialized duties include patient registration, patient lab order management, processing specimens for testing, blood study kit handling, lab order entry and acting as a first responder to emergency codes.
Education, License & Certification:
+ High school diploma or equivalent is required.
+ Completion of a phlebotomy training program.
+ Three years of documented phlebotomy experience and 1 year of teaching/training experience is required.
+ Computer keyboard skills and navigation are required.
+ Medical terminology and/or knowledge of basic anatomy is preferred.
+ PBT - Certified Phlebotomist
Essential Functions:
As a phlebotomist you will be responsible for obtaining quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods (venous, capillary, arterial, and line collections) using standard safety equipment from all age groups with strict adherence to regulatory requirements and collection procedures. You will provide rapid response to medical emergencies such as traumas and codes. Additional responsibilities include:
+ Accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, handling, and transportation.
+ Working with a variety of computer programs/systems.
+ Utilizing excellent customer relations and communication skills in performing phlebotomy
+ Answering the phone and interacting with patients, nurses, providers, and other health care professionals to ensure high customer satisfaction.
+ Demonstrating a positive and professional demeanor.
+ Working independently as well as within a team.
+ Demonstrating skills in coping, understanding, following written and verbal instructions, organization and prioritization, attention to detail, problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision making.
+ Assisting with the training of students and new employees.
+ You will actively partner with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
+ Phlebotomists may be required to support evening, night, weekend, or holidays shifts for both outpatient and inpatient specimen collection.
Other Duties:
+ Performs duties of the Phlebotomy I and II positions.
+ Performs phlebotomy in various settings such as inpatient, outpatients (including Patient Service Centers and GMG sites), nursing homes, and home-draws.
+ Responsible for the collection of blood of all patient population from infants to adults using prescribed procedures.
+ Acts as preceptor/trainer of staff and clinical rotations.
+ Completion of phlebotomy instructor training and certification
+ Completion of annual preceptor competency
+ Conducts teaching and training in healthcare or phlebotomy (e.g., preceptor)
+ Participates in phlebotomy training for staff and students.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Pay Range $17.70-$26.40/hour
