Phlebotomist Lead

Your job is more than a job.

The Phlebotomist, Lead is responsible for coordinating schedules, daily assignments and workflow for the inpatient specimen collection station. Performs all duties of the inpatient Phlebotomist including placing orders and procuring, processing, transporting and distributing all specimens for the patients. Coordinates inpatient services, resolve client and employee inquiries and issues. Enforces policies and procedures as outlined by the management/department.
 

 
Your Everyday 

Organizes, plans and executes workload:

Works under the direction, implements and enforces policies and procedures to ensure efficient operation of the phlebotomy services.Prepares schedules and makes daily work assignments for the phlebotomy staff.Monitors specimens to ensure process of workload according to timelines.Enters orders into computer accurately for all patients.Verifies specimen requirements and special instructions for tests ordered including reference lab testing.Verifies patient information including name of ordering physician and tests ordered.

Collects blood specimens as needed and documents the specimen collection:

Performs routine venipuncture according to established laboratory policies and procedures.Labels all specimens at time of collection and processes specimens. Initials every tube and records time of the collection on the tubes.

Distributes all specimens:

Coordinates specimen processing staff assignments.Ensures that all specimens for patients are delivered to laboratory in a timely manner to maintain specimen integrity.Sorts and distributes all phlebotomy and nurse collected specimens to the appropriate sections of the lab.Informs the medical staff regarding any specimen requiring STAT testing.

Maintains inventory of section supplies:

Ensures adequate inventory of supplies to maintain phlebotomy collection station. Coordinates inventory of supplies.

 

The Must-Haves 
 
Minimum: 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent AND 5 years of Phlebotomy experience.Preferred: Vocational Training in Phlebotomy.


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required: Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) - American Heart Association


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Excellent communication skills.Interpersonal skills.
