You would be responsible for providing skilled phlebotomy in the Springfield, MA area nursing homes. Collects and processes blood and other specimens according to established policies and procedures for clinical laboratory testing to ensure accurate lab results that will assist the physician in diagnosis and treatment. In doing so, obtains needed supplies, verifies patient identification, prepares skin site, and performs venipuncture and skin puncture according to established aseptic techniques. Labels specimens and transports them to the laboratory for analysis. Your work is vital to the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients. Must have dependable transportation.
What you will do:
Receives assignments, obtains required supplies and equipment necessary to carry out task while servicing area nursing homes.
Drives personal vehicle to travel to client locations and SPHS facilities. Completes appropriate mileage forms on a daily/weekly basis.
Performs various clerical functions in order to facilitate the efficiency of lab services. Follows up and resolves specimen issues. Completes reports and forms for documentation of quality assurance (e.g. daily logs, specimen management reports)
Organizes workload to ensure that specimens are collected for testing within established time frame protocols. Assists co-workers to complete assignments as needed.
Provides clinical orientation and supervision for students and new or less experienced lab personnel.
Cleans, disinfects and performs general housekeeping of work area and/or phlebotomy basket on a regular basis in accordance with OSHA regulations.
Work Hours/Shift:
40 hrs, Day Shifts, alternating weekends and rotation of holidays; early start times 4:30 am
Minimum Requirements:
High school or GED.
Nat'l Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
Technical training in Phlebotomy Program, 1 year of experience, preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills; strong phlebotomy skills. Adaptability and flexibility necessary for work schedule and patient care requirements. Good command of the English language and medical terminology.
Dependable transportation; valid driver’s license in good standing
