Phlebotomist- Part Time Days- St Mary Medical Center

Description:Responsible for the collection of blood samples from inpatients and the timely delivery of those specimens to the appropriate technical areas for analysis. Position requires an experienced, highly-skilled, pleasant technician who can work with a minimum of supervision.

Schedule: Every other Weekend hours 5am-1:30p and available to cover shift vacancies as needed to avoid OT.Properly identifies out patients by verbal confirmation and positive identification system.Properly identifies the inpatients using the hospital identification wristband and scannerProperly identifies and labels patients specimens for  Blood Bank testing using the positive patient identification system.Properly identifies patients and adequately performs venipunctures and/or skin punctures.Uses appropriate aseptic technique to draw blood culturesClearly and accurately labels all specimens immediately after venipuncture and completes necessary documentationEvaluates specimen adequacy Receives specimens in the computer and delivers them to the appropriate departmentMonitors inventory levels and follows appropriate protocol for re-ordering suppliesDeletes or cancels orders as necessary with full documentation of reason and colleague they spoke with.Collates requests, answers the telephone, delivers specimens to appropriate department and operates the pneumatic tube Always demonstrates proper telephone etiquetteConsistently assumes responsibility for calls, correctly answers questions, directs inquiries and takes messagesAdapts work schedule to meet emergency staffing needs Is responsive, courteous, respectful and cooperative in completing tasksCollects TIMED and STAT tests within designated time periodMaintains supplies, carts, workstations in a neat, clean and orderly mannerPerforms other related duties as required

Qualifications:

High School Diploma/Equivalent required

Phlebotomy Certification preferred
