Performs venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks to obtain blood samples for testing purposes. Properly identifies patients and follows procedures for collection of specimens. Ensures that all information from the blood collection of specimens is entered into the laboratory computer system including time drawn, time received, and proper phlebotomy code. Collects chain of custody urine drug screens for pre-employment, post-accident, and just cause cases using proper collection procedures as set forth by NIDA. Picks up samples from nursing units as required. Performs other related functions as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
License/Certification:
Certification as a phlebotomist through a nationally recognized agency such as ASCP, ASPT, NCA or completion of phlebotomy course through a recognized medical program, preferred.Basic Life Support Certification required within 30 days of hire.Experience:
Minimum 2 years experience, preferred.Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Formal training in phlebotomy, preferred.
